.
I came home today to some sad news from Richard at SwordNation.
The Passau has been dropped from the Signature Collection. I had a pre-order on it and he contacted me and told me it is not to be. At least for now. He said they may reconsider later. Let them know if you liked it.
Very sad news for me. I REALLY liked that sword !
Beautiful diamond bladed MONSTER of a sword. Crap !
Here's the prototype if you didn't see it --

"at least for now" gives them a lot of wiggle room. I would think we may eventually see it, they just shoved it off far enough it fell over the horizon.

I talked to Sonny earlier today and asked him about this. He said that it just wasn't all that popular, so they ditched it. HOWEVER, he also said that it may be slightly redesigned and made later down the road. Just not right now, as there's a LOT on VA's plate atm. Don't quote me on this, as I may have misunderstood him, but that was my impression. Indeed, sad news... but not absolutely final news. ;D I really did like it, though. It was my fourth fav of the Signature line, but I still want one. I like the Malatesta most (as does Sonny), followed by the kreigshwert and Bristol tied for 2nd/3rd. The Passau was 4th, with the others at various points behind it. I'll let you guys know if I find anything out on this subject... Being a mod on the VA forums has its perks! ;D (mainly, having a good excuse to call Sonny and chat about the awesomeness that is VA. ) -Slayer

I am really surprised that they dropped this sword due to "lack of interest".
It was the only really differentiated sword of the Signature lot, having the diamond cross section blade and long point. I guess most folks just like fullers.
To me, it's a stunner. So was the scabbard.

I hope I didn't jinx the Hedemark, because I changed my option to that one !
I like fullers too. ;D

HEY! ;D LOL. Thanks Tom. Yeah, I PMed Sonny about it becuase I have free time and love VA to a fault and whatdya know? I'm a mod. I've had the great fortune to speak with him once today once yesterday, and once the day before! I haven't intended to plague him; I'm just really curious. I'm not exactly sure how much I can tell how how much was 'unofficially confidential', but it looks like VA is going to be doing some pretty cool stuff in the future... ;D Oh, and would you guys check the 'Custom Sword Shoppe' sub-forum over there in a bit? I have a design I'll be posting that I'd love your opinions on. ;D Thanks! -Slayer P.S. If you have any questions for Sonny, but don't think they warant a PM or email, or just want a quick answer, feel free to ask me. I may not know, but I can always get an answer to you from Sonny ASAP.

I would of likely bought a Passau after the Malatesta but I wont cry now that its gone. I'm sure whatever they bring out will be gold and if it doesnt seem to draw enough interest they will go back to the drawing board. I like it that VA's not afraid to do that ....... thats like sexy confidence as my wife would put it .......... I'm looking forward to any diamond cross section profile blades they bring out more so then their fullered blades. I personally would of seen a diamond profile on the malatesta (wishes of the many I'm sure) but the blade its got now looks nice too so all good . Better to do whats safe and ensure all these VA ambitions come to fruition then try to placate to much and score loss which makes things rocky and stressfull for all concerned.

I pretty much agree with all of that. You know, if Sonny does reinstate the Passau, you could always get him to make you a custom that sports the Passau's blade, but the Malatesta's fittings. Now THAT would be sweet. ;D -Slayer

Hmmm...sorry to hear it go but if it means they have more time to spend on the blades that are currently in production- I'm all for it. It wasn't my favorite by a longshot anyways...
