Welcome to the Review Index feedback thread
Have any ideas about how to improve the section? Want to request a review be submitted to the section? Or, perhaps you would just like to leave a comment...
Here's the place to do it!
You may also from time to time see updates about new reviews being added, or future changes to the index itself. Whether you are a long time member, a newcomer, or just visiting our friendly forum we invite everyone to use this convenient section to get the most down-to-earth sword reviews.
While you are here, please take part in the poll to let us know how your experience here at SBG with the review index has been... Thanks!

I happily give your index top marks. it has been a resource and reference I've used often. now that we have this feedback thread to help keep it up to date I can't think of where it falls short. yes it's incomplete as not all reviews are listed but let's face it they come so fast that it isn't practical to try and keep up every day. just keep updating once in a while and all will be good.

Thanks Tom, and you have reminded me of something i have been meaning to talk about with the viewing public but have yet to do.
From time to time folks may wonder why a certain review is not included in the index, or why there isn't a section for a certain manufacturer listed.
First of all, it could be as Tom mentioned, and the index simply hasn't been updated yet to include the review you did or are looking for. With the frequency of reviews, and considering the long tedious task of updating the index, there is really no need to update it everyday or even every month. About every 3-4 months should suffice (with this last month only having about 20 new reviews added since May.
Now, some may notice that there have been a lot more than 20 reviews added since then, so why aren't they on the index?
Well, this is left up to a few simple rules which are not official by any means, but are used by yours truly to sift through the coal in order to find the diamonds. Some reviews are lacking in one way or another, either no pictures, or hardly any information is usually the case. What makes a review an "index worthy review" is if it is packed with useful information. Either pictures or well written feedback is what a review is all about imo.
So, if there is a specific review that is not featured on the index it probably just didn't fit the bill. Click on any of the reviews featured and you will notice the standard i am gunning for in regards to review quality.
Another possibility is, the review could be on some obscure item bought through ebay or found at an obscure discount retailer. Basically, to save time & space, new entries for manufacturers or re-branders is determined by having a minimum of 2 reviews of their featured products being considered "index material". Then the entries are made.

well I didn't want to say for fear of casting a negative pall on the thread but I just find that some reviews are not very helpfull and I'd prefer they not find their way onto the index. I think there may even be one or two of mine that fall in that category but that's ok. gotta think of the greater good.

Not at all That's what this thread is for after all. That's pretty much the idea, its sort of meant to be real "power reviews" that you can really walk away from feeling much more informed, and escape the retail BS that gets shoved at us through photoshopped product pictures and cheesy slogans ect... Come to think of it.... My reviews are quite cheesy aren't they?

Yeah, I gotta go with Tom on this one. Some "reviews" aren't really reviews at all. There more or less just a feww paragraphs written by someone. No guideline, no structure, pic, nothing. IMO, these don't deserve a place in the index. And James, the index itself is GREAT. You worked your $emprini off on it, and it will always be ongoing. The effort and commitment you showed on this (as well as other things) is a testament to why you're Global now. Oh hell, you're Global now, thats like a virus, right?
An off the wall suggestion. Would it be possible to have a review index for the "Other Weapon" board? I know it doesn't see as much traffic, but it's still a pain to try and find if somethings already been reviewed and how well.

I've found it useful.......yes there are some things as mentioned by other so far....but think it's a valuable tool for those searching for a particular review without dredging the whole site to find it or not.

Let me take a look and see what we can put together. You know James, I just looked at that section again. It's only four pages long, so an index may not be neccesary at the moment. Then again, might be easier to do it while it's small than after it gets too large ( doubt that'll happen but who knows). Honestly, I enjoy doing " other weapons" reviews a lot. Mostly axes, which is a weapon of preference for me. But all in all, it's still a small board and will probably stay that way.

I think the Review Index an excellent addition to the forums...a one stop shop area is always great. Now, where'd they go?

I am very happy to see that after almost a year & a half has passed, the review index has received over 20,000 views. Not exactly cause to strike up the band, but that is somewhat of a milestone! Thanks everybody

Thanks everybody Actually James, the credit goes to you and all those who have taken the time to put their swords to the test and then record those findings for everyone else considering purchasing a particular blade. Thank you!

I use the index quite often. It's one of the most valuable databases on the net for modern made swords.

It's a great resource, I know I always have a look to see if something I intend buying is on there first.
Thanks James!

yes, could we possibly have some nwer entries into the reviews? With so much new stuff coming out I understand not everything will make it in or be a worthy review to place in the archives, but I do know that alot of folks including myself usually hit this are first if interested in a new sword.

I agree with bradleee this is the first place that I look and it would be helpful if I didn't have to search through pages of reviews to find it.

I think the biggest reason James hasn't done an update is due to the forum move.

I know an update to the review section is long overdue, but Paul needed my services to be focused elsewhere with the recent transition.
Once everything has calmed down a bit, and i get a free moment, i will do a final update of the index for the archives.
Sorry for the delay folks...
