I wonder as the tree was fallen, was it still fresh and green, or was it dry and seasoned? Green stuff is far more forgiving on a sword... 2" is pushing though. Hope it all worked out.

Brissy...that was priceless; of course, knowing Mike- that's probably how it played out. Or he threatened to melt the sword down in a furnace if it didn't get itself right by the sun. lol
echuit, glad to hear that you learned the important lesson- as you and others have said, glad it was this sword and not an Albion, Atrim, Tinker- you already get the drift. That would've hurt your feelings for real had you done that with one of those swords. Don't feel too bad, you're not the only one that stubborn; my Dad used to tell me that he could see me learning everything the hard way, because I refused to believe or listen to what I'm told.
LOL
I didn't turn out too bad!

I would not hesitate to take any sword I have made, in full confidence and knowledge of it's abilites, against soft wood trees and limbs, 2x4s, etc.

Several layers of wet newspaper bound around a 1" PVC pipe is a good approximation to a human limb that you can use for a target if you are seeking realism/semi-authenticity. Connected to a 2L bottle and a simple air valve, you can even simulate arterial spray if you were so inclined to do such a thing for the whole Kindgom of Heaven / Gladiator feel.
Not that I have ever done this to freak the neighbors out or anything...
However, even on a proper target, such as tatami, pool noodles, or pork loin, it is possible to warp any sword if your edge alignment is not correct. Swords can take sets from not being shipped properly, laying in the floor too long, or hanging undisturbed in a two-point rack overnight - impacting is not always the cause of a set. Metal is just one of those weird substances that can act strange sometimes.
As with Mike's Norman, sometimes the solution is even stranger...

Do you have my back porch bugged!!! man no matter how often I hear refference to this fix I can't help but laugh. I'm still glad I traded that sword to Mike and I'd sure miss the swords I got from him if I didn't have them, but I can't help but wonder if the SC sun would hve worked also or if it was Mike's sweet whispers that set old Norm to rights.

I'm betting its the sweet nothings he whispered to it in the rays of the setting sun...
Yea, Mike waxed poetic and inspired the sword to right itself.
