I wanted to get a set of frogs from The Inner Bailly, but they are 2 months behind on deliveries. My second choice was Ravenswood Leather, but I need questions answered before placing an order and they are not returning my phone calls or e-mail.
So, could someone make a recommendation on what is a good set of frogs for a Hanwei side sword and main gauche? BTW, I''m a lefty, so the maker needs to offer left hand draw models.
I'm also debating on whether to get a rapier frog or just a standard two point frog.
TIA
Jim

If you give me an idea of what type of frog you want, I can quote you a price. The turn around time would be a week or two, not months. I don't have my website up yet do to a domain registration hiccup, but the forums are scattered with my work. ;D

Thanks. Looking forward to seeing your quote.

I could do any of the above designs for the same price as TIB and RWL has posted, my design would differ a little slightly in order not to infringe on their copyrights, but they would have the same wear, functionality, and look basically the same.
Right now, I only have black dye and silver hardware in stock - I used the rest of oxblood and brown on other projects. I can get these things back in stock however. Essentially, you would just need to make up your mind on what you wanted exactly, and we'd get to crafting it. I would recommend using the buckles and not laces though.
We are coming up on Dragoncon, so I will be busy the rest of this week. I could start on a commission late next week or so.
PM to discuss further details!

Just curiously, why do you recomend buckles rather than laces? I mean, sure, it's more historical, but laces can get a more 'perfect' fit, right? I had a windlass frog with buckles that I dislike becuase the three adjustments it had were the wrong size to fit my swords. If it had been laced, that would have been irrelevant. I'm sure that you have a logical and correct reason for your statement, since you're definitely more skilled and experienced than I am. Just trying to learn from the master, lol. ;D -Slayer

Odingaard, let me know when you're restocked with the brown leather; I'll get with you then about my project.

gearlose: I have that sword frog of the ring from TIB... the first on pictured in your post. I like it quite a bit.' I have a pouch from Ravenswood Leather I like quite a bit, don't have any sword frogs from them... but I agree with Odingaard, I much prefer buckles to string ties. Also, the Ravenswood leather one looks like another sword frog I just sold... which, while functional, was not one of my favorites. For the Hanwei side sword, I would persoanly go with a rapier style swordfrog, because I think the side sword is very artistic looking and will look a lot better with the mutiple buckles on a rapier frog. Good luck!

After some exchanges, I am actually recommending that he go with a good baldric for his sword. It's period correct for his weapon, and to be honest, if attending faires/conventions, it's really nice to be able to mount and dismount a sword quickly.
After looking at it from my prospective, I've referred him to Darkwood Realms leather. They make a wonderful baldric (I've got three of them, one of which I have had for 8 years) for only a tad more than TIB ring frog. Their price is less than I can get all the materials for, so its a great deal. As for the gauche, I'd just go with a simple frog from KoA. I think in the end he would be happier - because I have learned in years of faire going, the less stuff you have on your belt, the better.
I could make a baldric, and definately don't have a problem doing custom work, but after looking at his needs, I figure DWR is the best option and the most bang for the buck on a non-custom item built to last forever. I love their baldrics, and at their price - they cannot be beat. I can't make them at the price they offer!
Here is a video with me using a DWR baldric:

Thanks everyone. I took Odingaard's advice and ordered the rapier baldric he suggested. I'm still looking for a good dagger frog. I think I'd prefer one of the angled models versus a straight hanging version.

I need a good, comfrtable baldric. I have one, but its only so so... it gets the job done, but I'd like a better one. Odingaard is right tho... many RenFaires have tought me that a Baldric is a good thing to have... you can just lift it off and set it and your sword down when need be, which is very usefull. As few things on the belt as possible is a good general rule.
