New to SBG and Swords

Here´s the thing...if your using a sword in one hand and a shield in the other, then as Tom mentioned, you usually have your sword foot back to be protected by the shield which leads to shorten range. A similar thing happens if you are wielding two weapons. Now the thing is when you go to single sword, you still have less range unless your being suicidal in your attacks. This is because with two handed attacks you can fully extend an attack and go from a guard to another guard. However fully extending yourself with just one hand on a sword with nothing in the other hand is a good way to die. So unless you know it´s a killing blow, you will have less reach then with two hands...which is why in general you have less reach. Of course exception exists (like if your playing for a glide to disarm). Course none of this applies to bottles or mats .
Also if your gonna get the hanwei tinker bastard sword, I highly recommend the fullered version for what you want over the non fullered version. It loses no agility or point control and yet it has a noticeable more omph in the cut. The only downside is it is even more off in two hands then the non fullered version. I plan to replace my bastard sword blade with the fullered one at some point. Considering how often it´s getting plowed into our pressure treated wood cutting post, I don´t expect my blade to last more then a couple of years(we are on our second post...the first one completely died from getting hacked at from flubs). Then again, I got it so new people can cut with little worries and I can replace the blade easily enough when the abuse of the learning curve of about 8 people finally do tire my blade out .
