So Mike, continueing with the Regal/Atrim line of questions how would you relate the Regal Monarch to the AT 1557? is the Monarch based on the 1557 or is it it's own unique creation? how about weight balance and harmonics on the monarch vs 1557? is that even fair to ask?

When you get down to details, they are nothing alike. The Monarch is longer and narrower. It feels very different than a 1557. It is much like an Albion Kingmaker in design, only a little lighter in overall weight. I would say the Monarch prototype is much closer in handling to an AT1315, if I had to pick an ATrim sword I have experienced that compares to it in handling. It isn't exactly the same. But they both have that "dynamic" feel and they both turn right where I want them to.

I figured from a visual point alone that the Monarch was a narrower profile overall and thats not a bad thing lends quite an elegence fitting of its title ........ Its cutting potential was well illustrated in your tatami cutting.

thanks Mike, I had thought that might be the answer but I wanted to know for real. I gues I have one remaining question regarding the Monarch right now. how it the tip shaped? does it have that nice AWL shape or does it just stay flat and get pointy? also does the tip cut well? I ask because you mentioned that the 1557's tip cuts well.
thanks for the info.

It is more of a classic Type XVIII "Gus Tip" that has cutting edges that stilll have good belly all the way to the tip. But it is pretty pointy. And those edges cut well all the way to the point. The 1557 tip cuts well too, but I have no idea why. It's more like an awl with a thick rib. The last half inch is almost as thick as it is wide. Must be magic of some sort?
