HI!All, This collecting all types of swords is new to me but enjoying it as I go. My latest sword I have in mind is the Hanwei Dadao. I have read the reports on this large sword and it sounds not to bad to me. The only thing that I have not yet seen is if the sword has a full tang. With out this I would not consider this sword. I did have in mind the Ox Tail Dao but from what Ive been told I can no longer obtain it here in Australia direct from the store I normally deal with as it is no longer produced by Hanwei. Any help would be appreciated by a newby to all this.
Many Thanks, Kevin.

I just pulled out my old Hanwei Dadao and ran a magnet along the entire handle, from the guard to the ring at the pommel end and it stuck the whole way, so definitely full tang. It really isn't all that big a sword in person (though the blade is very wide), it's actually pretty light and handy, though it definitely has a nice blade-biased balance point, making for good chopping/hacking ability. For the super low price this sword usually goes for, I think it's one of the true "gems" of the lower-end sword market. Btw, if you haven't seen it yet, here's my old review: www.sword-buyers-guide.com/dadao.html. Other than the cord wrap finally shifting slightly (still snug feeling, though), the sword is still fine. Nothing loose, broken, etc.

Thankyou all for your comments. I have read your great review of the Dadao and it plus all the comments have convinced me to purchase the Dadao. Here in Sydney the asking price (New of course) is $190 AUS.
Thanks again, Kevin.

Can't go wrong with a Hanwei dadao Very true, at least in my experience. Even with the latest price jump, it's still well worth the price of admission. It's proven to be a really handy, fun, and durable chopper.

Final thankyou to all. Purchased Dadao yesterday . Considering the price is at the lower end I am very impressed with the sword. It has it's funtion as a sword and taking that into consideration you can not but appreciate it.
Thanks again, Hope to return here again. I'm by far a sword expert but enjoying not only the collecting of various swords but investigating there history and that of the people who used them.
Kevin.

Glad to hear it, Kevin. I hope you get the same enjoyment from yours that I've had from mine. If you feel up to it at some point, feel free to do a review of your own. It's always good to get as many opinions and reviews of a given sword as possible. Have fun with your new baby.

Thankyou, Happy to help if I can. I also have several Windlass American civil war swords. Again very pleased with their products. Plus several cheaper , so called , Katana's from the local city market place. Interesing what you can pick up if you approach the seller after doing your home work on the net to be able to talk the talk Carbon steel, folded, forged.temp, full tang, etc, etc. By the way all you really need to find out is here at SBG. Kevin.

Was it also one of the first swords that contributed to your sword interest, because it was for me. I now remember a store I visited before I knew anything about functional swords. The store called Tinder Box had a Hanwei Dadao (also overpriced); even though I didn't know about Sword-like Objects, I could definitely feel the balance, weight, and feel of the dadao.

Yeah, I know. Thana was talking about the Hanwei Dadao he DIDN'T buy from that site, but from some other store, and at a higher price. What was interesting about his experience though, was that a Hanwei Dadao was also the first "real" sword I've encountered, in real life!

It was the store at the local mall and it was indeed an eye catching sword because it has long red handle with red sash tied around ring pommel . I was actually start my search for real sword looking for Thai or Burmese Dha because that was the sword that I suppose to know how to use but along the way I fell in love with Dao and Da Dao . Funny that you mention this because that overprice store at the mall has moving sale (they just move to the otherside of the mall )and they mark down this Han Wie Da Dao to $115 ,may be I can use this as an excuse to get a second one

Has anyone purchased from Bladematrix before? Is it a good idea to get the dadao from them?
