he said, i,ll sj=how you a couple of things that, choson ninja, my brother, showed me . mouhahahahaha these guys are so stupid man,, can't beleive it lol And I suppose, according to you, that all of the medieval masters who taught the life and death skill of longsword combat are just as stupid? I can post tons of examples of grabbing a live blade with a bare hand from historical manuals. But I'll only give a few from Talhoffer. Here, here and here. Tom is correct to warn people against grabbing a live blade if they haven't had any training. But it is a real technique that was used frequently in medieval combat. Just because you don't understand what you are seing doesn't mean it can't be done. Don't expose your ignorance by being a jerk. This is just another example of how things have been going downhill on this forum. Just post a vid and invite everyone to poke fun at it and think of mean things to say. People also wore powdered wigs when it was 100 degrees outside, didn't take baths because they thought it was bad for you, drilled holes in peoples heads to relieve headaches, burned people at the stake for being witches, thought the earth was flat......need I say more.

Lets don't forget leeches and maggots! Wait, they started doing that again....... Nevermind. Yep! What comes around goes around ;D. That made me laugh Ric thanks. Onto the video. If you stop the video at 1:29 you can see that the guy who grabs the sword twists and leavers against the opponents thumb. I have a good grip from being an electrician and He would have gotten the sword out of my hand. I have taught my kids that trick if someone grabs their arm, just twist against the thumb. I think, but have no idea really, that swords where not "Tom" sharp back in the day. Who really knows and who really cares. All I know is I got my belt sander and can't wait to try it out. Thanks for the video Tom! Rob

Holding a sharp sword by the blade in with your bare hands is not a very wise thing to do, even if you are trained. Even if you are a master, you are putting yourself in a dangerous situation.

I agree... in actual combat. I think that this sort of move, even when well trained, is very, VERY dangerous. However, in the Demo, the guy with the sword is working WITH the guy taking it... and they have practiced this over and over and over. I see the danger as VERY minimal in the demo.

And THAT is why they posted it, because they could show you technique, but not in a realistic setting. I mean...I don't see that guy going up to some kook off the street and askin him to take a swing with a sharp to see if he could catch it.
I like these videos, they are entertaining and in some cases, informative...but one thing we all like to do here is state our opinion...everyone's got one so if that sort of thing doesn't jibe well with you, you might want to take a break from time to time.
There's no point in getting worked up over someone/something you yourself are not intimately acquainted with. What do I mean? Don't take it so personal.

Here´s the thing...I do think that this can work in combat...assuming your very well trained to do so. However you did not need to swing a sharp sword at somebody to prove that. That is my gripe about this video...not so much the holding a sharp blade in hand.
