Any handled this sword before? I've always kind of liked the looks of it.

From where? Who makes it? Where did you see it?

Valiant Armoury, old line. Would not recommend it even if I never handled it: heavy, ricasso, weird fuller...Just my opinion not based on experience but by the stats and pictures I've seen posted...I, personnally, would go with one from their new lines: practical, signature, etc. or give time for Mr. Suttle to ameliorate the old line...or go for a model from another manufacturer...

if you really like this then check out Valiant Armory's website. they have a forum in which they are discussing several custom sword offerings including many upgrades to the old models. speak to sonny directly if you are serious about getting a custom improved standard line VA, he'll work with you.
BUT if you just thought it was cool looking and you liked it because of the price there are better places for you to look.
I have to admit that it is one of the better looking swords they have in their standard line but at that price I'd just go with a practical long and get a much better sword.

It looks like the pre-cursor to the current Bristol. I never noticed before...

Most of their old line isn't noteworthy, so I'm not surprised there. They had a few of what I'd call so-so blades, Bill (Tsafa) had a couple of them, one of which wasn't any good and VA had told him that the sword wasn't made for that (hitting a tire pell), but that it was still 'battle ready'. I thought that particularly hilarious- granted, it was way before Sonny took the helm.

I loved the look of this sword, and during a stop at KoA's showroom I got to handle it. The balance is better than what I expected... but it's still a brick. The crossguard is comical, almost an inch or so thick. I can usually overlook weight so long as it's reasonable, but not so much on this one. If you can talk to Sonny about a remake, that'd be awesome and I'd like to know how it turns out.

kid, I think you're right...that guard was the model for the Bristol's which I understand is much more appealing.
I got a look at this one last night and it has the usual weird looking ricasso...almost like whoever made these swords used to be a knifemaker or something.
