Another design I've been mulling over. Thought I might as well offer it up for feedback. The cross looks familiar to me, but I can't think where I would have seen it? It started out as an idea for a downswept guard to suit a ring pommel single handed version of Seanoir. Then I thought that a fishtail pommel would suit it much better. Green leather for the grip sticks in my head. The fishtail being grippable led me to do it as a bastard grip, but I'd probably rather shorten the grip right down, and have it as a three quarter hander, like the VA Castile, and make the blade 31 or 32" long - so many ideas. What would you choose if it were for you? I've sketched up several variations for it. Feel free to offer opinions on all of these factors, and mix and match your faves. Grip: Bastard (7.25") (A/C) versus Single 6" (B) vs 3/4 grip 3.75" (D) Grip Colour: Red Blue or Green. Guard Width: 7.5" (A/C) vs 6" (B/D) Blade Length: 29" (A/C) vs 31" (B) vs 32" (D) Ricasso Style : A, B, or C? Blades are all cut and thrust (XVI profile), though A is broadest, and B,C and D are slimmer. Anyway, It's not quite taken in my mind, so any critique and criticism is welcome. It's on my list but not quite ready to roll, you know? Cheers And a close up to better show my ideas for the guard and pommel. The guard would be cut concave to thin down to about 1/4" before the flares (as seen from above the pommel)

I really like the look of that one mate. Number C has my vote for the look of the blade . I reckon you should go with the red wrap and do your gold heat treat thing to the pommel and guard to give it a more majestic feel, as befits an angel, too bad you don't have any rich dark purple leather as I reckon that would come up a treat with gold coloured pommel and guard. If I were personally buying I would want it one of two ways, either an arming sword with 25 inch blade and 5 inch handle or a 30 inch blade with a 10 inch handle.

I like the idea of the purple and gold. I have a piece of medium purple that I've never used, enough for one grip. Any of the colours would look good with silver or gold parts. I wonder if this would be a good one to cast in brass, and even have antiqued...

Brass of bronze? What I would love to see is a dark green with copper coloured fittings. That purple looks really good with the goldy/brass colour. Your crossguard looks really familiar but I can't place it.

Yeah that's what I reckon, It seems really familiar, but I can't place it. I wonder if it has been done? Theres zero chance of copper I'm sorry. It doesn't melt and pour like brass or bronze. I would do it in brass.

I agree with bw. Option "C" has the most appeal to me as far as looks go. I think it would also be a fast handler given the dimensions.

I like 'A' best myself... Were it for me... as a signle handed sword I agree with BW I would do it between 25-28 inchs in length and 4-5 inchs of handle... as a longsword I would do it 32-34 inchs of blade and 8-9 inchs of grip. I think it would look awesome either way, as a longsword or Arming sword... the blade shape, cross, and pommel would work equaly well with either. I'm not a fan of the purple/gold theme... purple is my favorite color but I don't much car for gold. Or Brass, truth to tell. Which ever direction you go in... the riassco on A with that cross and pommel make for a very elegant looking weapon IMO.

A bit like the Ritter Steel vampire sword...winged skull slo..some El cid...oh Buffy had one somewhat like that...yours is nicer though. I like it. Kinda. I don't like the pommel. I don't see it complementing the guard...like i've seen it before... not sure why i'm thinking of this www.the9thgate.com/Fancy%20Two%20Tone%20Athame.jpgbut pommel is longer and with a/multiple stone(s) like an amethyst at the end, encased, or even side encasing... ...in Red and Nickled finish. blah it's 2am i'm so sleepy. don't listen to me. nice work dude. (sorry for the long ass link)

Huh... I actually have that SLO Dagger. Pretty nice for display, but overall not worth a second look. I got it RIGHT before I learned about what makes a sword 'real'. Personally, I LOVE the gold and purple look, even though I generally hate purple. (I know, sean, I know. Well, I guess nobody can be perfect, eh? ;D ) I also prefer the blade shape of option B. I think that it's the only one that you haven't done before, and it would be cool to see something a little but different than the type of ricasso on options A and C. Just my $0.02. Regardless, I'm sure it'll be a beauty, Brenno. ;D In fact, I may have a commision for you sometime soon, after I pick up a few production blades that are high on my list right now. It's still in the 'hmm... what about this...' stage, but it'll happen. Sooner or later, that is! ;D Good work, man. Keep it up! -Slayer

The cross reminds me of the Master Sword. More flowing, but you can definitely see the resemblance. Overall it kinda looks like if the Master Sword were a more feasible design. Someone was asking where to get a replica, maybe there was a subconscious connection?

I'd choose 'B'...I like the look of 'C' but I like that the shoulders of the blade on B go all the way into the guard. I find it more pleasing, aesthetically speaking.

Y'll can pick different favourite parts from different sketches. Not just one package.
I am still not struck with how I'm going to do this. I know I want to make a single hander. And I want it to sell. I will be doing the blade style from B, with no cutouts. I have scribed it up already. I have shortened it to 28". I think thats plenty for a single. I like the stumpy grip idea as per D.
The guard and pommel I'm not sold on. Part of me still wants to do a ring pommel like Seanoir. Also I have ideas for a more angular downswept guard, with less flare, to go with the ring pommel. I don't know yet.

Annnndddd... I decided to just draw what I see in my head, and then figure out how to make it after. This guard is more how I see it in my head. And I think I've figured out how to make it from the 1" sq. bar I use, as seen on the purple pic. I'd have to cut it to that shape, heat it and bend the quillions down. I think that should result in the guard taking the shape as I've drawn it here. The fishtail pommel as drawn above is still an option. But I am still keen on the ring pommel, and am pretty happy with how the ring pommel looks here with it. I will turn a spike to act as the nut, rather than the block used on Seanoir. What do y'all reckon of these: And the finished overall look: Then I'm sitting here looking at the plan for the unbent guard shape, and think it looks pretty winglike without even bending it. So drawing the flutes onto the unbent guard shape this is how it would look - the bit that was to be the top of the guard is now the lower.

Do it! The ring pommel completes it for me!! Especially with purple and gold!

Hey Seth. You like it with the ring too, eh? This is the look of the after thought guard. The unbent guard template shape. I cant be bothered with any further fiddling. You get the idea: Which guard hey? vs

Hey, Bren. ;D Personally, I like it more with the fishtail pommel and straight guard, but a ring pommel is okay. However, if you DO decide to go with a ring pommel, use the curved guard. Ring + straight just looks unbalanced to me... Whatever you choose, I'm sure it'll rock! ;D -Slayer

The ring pommel and curved guard look more elfish, while the straight guard and ring pommel look more majestic.... Hmmmm...
