It is tough. I'm kind of leaning toward the ring pommel and the straight wings, but I could go either way with the wings. In fact I just half made a ring pommel for it while heat treating some blades. I've mocked up some colour combos to see how they go. Purple grip Silver furniture: Purple Grip, Heat Gold Furniture, Brass Nut: Green Grip, Silver Furniture, Brass Nut:

I prefear the curved wing guard with the ring pommel... and like both green and purple with silver, but not a fan of the gold. Still much prefer the blade shape in your original A tho...

Forest green and brass have you tried ? And i'm with Shadow, the A version is still the one that speaks to me the most. Make a set with slightly different versions for a bastard and a short sword

BW, whats not flowing and elegant about that blade? Anyway, I think I know what to do. It's two swords. I like them both. And I agree with Slayer's suggestions: I will do the straight guard with a ring pommel, and a brass spike. That will have silver hardware, and a Green grip. I will make this one first. _________________________________________________ Plus I will do the downswept guard with the feathery fishtail pommel. That will have a purple grip. That will also open up a chance for me to do a scolloped ricasso for decor, but I will want to keep it elegant. Not too out there. There's a chance of golding the hilt parts. Purple and gold do look great together. Purple and GoldI'm pretty comfortable that both designs are strong enough to merit being made. I'll be getting stuck into the ring pommel version soon. Maybe they will both be made concurrently. ___________________________________________________ Enkidu - I'm going the Green and silver, plus the gold of the brass nut. That will be sweet. Maybe the fishtail one would be a good bastard? I know bastard swords are popular (seeing the poll for a SBG fantasy sword). Perhaps I could manage that. The ring pommel will definitely be single with a 28" blade. But the fishtail does lend it's self to a bastard grip. It could have 17cm of leather and 4 more from the pommel... Maybe I could have a long sweeping cutout at the ricasso, and extend the blade to 31"? Bastard Version:

I LOVE THOSE!
Great work, Brenno. I think that the ring pommel version will rock. I prefer the bastard version of the second sword, with silver fittings, but gold would still look awesome.
Either way... *drool*

Bren, maybe try doing a narrow neck flowing up in an inverted flair, joining into a traditional flair and then flowing down into an acute thrusting point

Great, i really think that you're in the right track ! An ''A'' version type blade for the bastard turn-up cross and fish tail wow ! If you want to make this a set i would consider keeping the same color patterns for both, or use colors that match a bit better together than purple and green. This is turning into one very interesting project Bren ! Keep it up ! Engravings on the blades or not ? Those flat sections screams for it ! Ever considered inlays ? Forget sleep, continue posting

Brenno: Try it with straight guard, ring pommel, midnight blue grip, silver furniture, and either a silver or black nut. And then hope I win the lottery because you'd have an instant sale. ;D
Oh, and definately single-handed for this one. I have to admit to not being a huge fan of some of your older stuff, but it's been getting REALLY good lately.

Thanks Seth and Slayer. I'm happy with where it's lead me. Yrx - No harm in obliging you virtually. Of course I'll make it any colour if someone wants to put a deposit on one of them. With your colouring: And also if all the hilt parts were blackened: Enkidu - not too keen on inlays, but I was cosidering engraving something in latin set between two crosses.

Blue and blackened looks good. Inlays looks like one hell of a job anyway ;p

I think the design is gorgeous as is. I personally like the "C" option, and my PO is that you should blacken the fittings and copver the grip in oxblood. of course, im not the one making the sword

Guys, he already finished these--he's not exactly working out which design to use anymore, lol. /index.cgi?board=europeansword&action=display&thread=12678&page=1 Though you're right--the man is GREAT at making designs and even better at making swords.

Very nice designs. It shows fantasy/nonhistorical elements, but isn't overly done, and retains a whole lot of elegance. The guard and pommel match nicely. I'm partial to A myself, as the distal taper seems like it would be a more cut-oriented blade.
I'm a big fan of royal purple myself, and think that the purple/gold theme would work nicely. However, certain combinations of purple and yellow can clash, and sometimes it could be good to separate them with a more neutral color such as silver or black.
