Well, it seems that I'll be getting $150 within the next few months (long story... :, and I've decided to give Windlass another chance.
Only one problem... I can't decide which sword to get!
So, I had this ingenious idea! Why not let my good friends over on SBG help me decide? I've seen newbies do it countless times, so why couldn't I do the same? So, here we are...
My three choices are:
A. The Windlass Rapter Sword, found here- www.kultofathena.com/product~item~501090~name~Raptor+Sword.htm
This sword has been one of my favorite Windlass' for a long time. It's elegant, deadly, and drop-dead cool. Besides, it has been confirmed to be well made and NOT a victim of 'Windlass whippyness'. Best of all, it's PEENED! Although I have absolutely no clue how they managed a peen with that shape pommel... While it totals out to about $185 sharpened and shipped, I'm okay with spending a few bucks out of pocket.
Good choice, no? But there's more to come...
B. The Windlass XIV Medieval arming Sword, found here- www.kultofathena.com/product~item~500972~name~Oakeshott+Type+XIV+Medieval+Arming+Sword.htm
While this sword is NOT my choice asthetically, the reviews and feedback have been so positive as to make looks almost null and void. The Type XIV Medieval Arming sword is FAR to plain for, me, as I prefer more fantasy styled weapons. But with a new grip and a few risers, I'm sure I'd fall in love with it. I even got to handle one once during a visit to AoV, and it certainly lives up to the hype. AWESOME handling. Also, this would be my first single hander, so it would be kind of cool to explore a new fighting style. Again, this sword is peened, which is a big upgrade over threaded, IMO. I still prefer a recessed hex nut, but plain ol' threaded is, well, lame.
Unfortunately, the $190 price tag means that I'd have to sharpen it myself, but alas... that's the way it works. But considering that extra work, it's more of a good choice rather than a great choice.
Last but not least...
C. The Windlass Fantasy Viking Sword, found here- kultofathena.com/product~item~500978.htm
This sword was never really a consideration of mine until I handled one over at AoV a few months ago. WOW!!! While the 3.5 lb weight is quite heavy for a single handle, it felt like a feather in my hand (not literally, but WAY lighter than I expected). Just like the Arming Sword, this is a one hander, which is cool. Also, while this is 'technically' a single hander, I could easily wield it 'bastard' style, with a few fingers wrapped around the pommel. Not a true H&aH sword, but it could be used as one in a pinch.
The downside is that the pommel is threaded, not peened. Not a deal-killer, but still something. Also, I'd likely sharpen this one myself as well, due to the price.
It rings up at about $195 Sharpened and shipped, or $177 shipped (approx.)

So... that's that, eh?
What do you think, guys and gals? I'm quite confuzzled, I must admit... Right not I'm leaning towards, well, all three of them! But I can only get one, at least for now...
By the way (not bytheway, although this applies to him to! ;D), if any of you have one of these swords and are willing to part with it, just shoot me a PM.
Thanks!!! ;D
