I went out on a limb and voted the Fantasy Viking. I've got one, and I'll second your opinion that it does not feel anywhere near its true weight. It's also a fairly stiff blade that cuts very well and handles much better than I had expected. At the current price they're listed at, I don't think you'd find a better fantasy-hilted arming sword.
However, the XIV is (obviously) more historical and is supposed to be the better performer. It's lighter, and also smaller. It would be a toss-up between these two for me, personally.

I voted for the Raptor. I own one. Regarding the Arming Sword, I personally don't like peened pommels, too hard to remove for later adjustment without destroying the pommel or sword . The fantasy Viking has that mouth on the pommel that looks like it could seriously bite you while swinging the sword Because of all the buzz about the Lakonia on the "Claymore or Lakonia" thread, then RicWilly's suggesting it on this thread (And I take RicWilly's suggestions seriously ) I hopped over to KOA to look at it, and like the Gladius, I love the blade but don't like the almost non-existent guard. I much prefer a Poignard kultofathena.com/product~item~401726.htmto either the Gladius or Lakonia. Nice parrying potential ;D

Raptor. I like the curves, and you're adding 7 inches in length and only 1 oz in weight. The PoB is only slightly more forward (1/4 inch). Also, I don't know about you, but a 4 inch grip is a little small for me, and the 7.125 in grip length on the Raptor allows for hand-and-a-halfing (kind of.) Personally, I like almost everything about the Raptor more, it seems more versatile, though, you do lose and edge.

Also, I don't know about you, but a 4 inch grip is a little small for me, and the 7.125 in grip length on the Raptor allows for hand-and-a-halfing (kind of.) The arming sword is a dedicated single handed sword... so the grip is just fine. I have large hands that have a problem with a lot of swords... and my hand fits great on the Arming sword. Its a very quick, solid, single handed sword... its hard to compare that to the larger Raptor, that are apples and oranges.

If you sport the Raptor at ren faires, babes will throw themselves at you. Don't listen to the rest they don't know anything.
(btw Starlust was designed after the raptor..just a little)

I went with the Raptor...that sword just calls me. I'm in the process of putting together a D'Haran strike force ensemble and that sword suits it perfectly. Given Odingaard's new business venture, that is the second sword I'm gonna have him customize, when I get it. I'm putting my custom wishes on hold for now as this is much more obtainable at this point in time for me.
I didn't choose the Type XIV because that's all Sean ever talks about with regards to Windlass so he thinks its so great but I don't.
LOL
I'm just f'in wit Sean, it is a good little sword, but IMO, the Raptor's a better choice. Looks very cool, too.

I recently saw the Raptor on sale for $155...which is $65 cheaper than what MRL is selling them for...if you could, I'd go for both, because isn't the Type XIV also on sale?
The XIV is just too short for me, but that's my personal preference.

Yeah, I'd be getting the Raptor from KoA, and they have it for $160. I didn't know that the Type XIV was on sale, thanks for letting me know. I've decided to go with the Type XIV, just because I don't want to miss the chance to get one. The raptor will wait for me. ;D Besides, I really need a 1-hander to try out. I think that it'll be fun to learn a new style. Thanks for all the input, guys! I'll let you know how everything goes... Does anyone want another review of one? There are already two, AND it's discontinued, but if anyone would like a review for some reason, I'm happy to oblige. ;D Thanks again! -Slayer

Review! Different viewpoints are always welcome. I wouldn't assume the Raptor will always be there. We all know Windlass' track record. But the Type XIV is already discontinued so best to grab it now.

Chris makes a good point; if I were in the market for a short sword, I'd jump all over it. I'm going for the Raptor I think.
