Has anyone purchased swords from Kris Cutlery or Enlightenment Swords? If so, how were the products and the service? Would you recommend them? Both have swords that I want to purchase but I wanted to get some feedback from their customers if any are on this forum.
Also, I live in the Bay Area of CA, in the USA, does anyone know where in the area I can get swords sharpened?

Rolin, I'm a bit of a Kris Cutlery fanboy so take that into account. I've got five of their pieces and am very pleased with them all. I don't mean to say they are perfect, there is alway room for improvement. Some find the fittings a bit rough and the prices at the KC site can be high (cheaper to go through Kult of Athena or sometimes these turn up in the classifieds). They all came very sharp and are excellent cutters. The ones I have are the Roman Gladius, Celtic, Medieval War sword, Viking and Teutonic. If your interest is in the east, there are some reviews of those type around as well. Which ones do you have your eye on?

I've picked up a couple pieces directly from KC. Service was fine--really quick shipping (they are less than 2 hours from me for what that's worth). The only sword I have that is still in their catalog is the training dao and it is okay--looks nice, pretty solid, really heavy.
I plan to pick up at least a few more swords from them.

I'm big on KC and personally think their 5160 line is the best money spent. I have four of their katanas and will be picking up a bare blade to mount, since they just got in the 29A for $139.

KC swords are in general pretty good. Not a fan of their chinese swords however. Since you mentioned enlightment sword, I assume your looking for chinese swords. I suggest you look at jin shi. A lot of members have had very good dealing with jin shi and they are very reasonably priced. As for a place to sharpen a sword, take it to ardenwood forge down in fremont. He has a 2x72 belt sander that will make short work of sharpening a sword .

I've had a few swords from Kris Cutlery... the only ones I had problems with where the katana, they were not well fit/assembled... but the blades were awesome. I have a Gladus and I had a Gim sword from them, both of which I loved. The Gim was a solid peice, a great cutter, just very plain. It was a user sword for sure but it had a great balance and was sharp and cutting right out of the box. The Gladus is awesome as well. The costumer service at Kris Cutlery is top notch... even the swords that had problems they were eger to solve them and great to work with. I will be buying from them again no doubt. I know nothing about Enlightenment Swords, never heard of them.

I agree with shadowhowler about Kris cuterly customer service ,you usually will deal directly with Cristina and she is the owner so most problem will be solve quickly.
I look at the exact same Enligtenment sword last year but they never reply to my e-mail so I don't know how can I order thier product . They mentioned in their web page that they have some distributors in Australia so they might not ship their sword to U.S.

I recall talking to them 2 months ago and they say that they could ship their products to the US. I do agree that they sometimes do not respond to emails. Might want consider sending them another email if they did not respond to the first one within a week. Kris Cutlery customer services is some of the best I have experienced so far.
