Caught the little one being cute with his toy cutlass again. He's got the enthusiasm but I think his form might need some work. (*Note there was audio but youtube seems to have ripped it out*)

I don't know man, it looked like he was turning it to make sure the edge hit first. having a basic grasp of edge alignment at his age is pretty advance I'd say.
thanks for sharing

Actually he does have a really good concept of edge alignment. One side is "sharp ouchie" the other "dull, safe" I have been trying to show him that along with basic strikes. He's really quick to pick up anything to do with swords.

VERY cute! Pretty whippy blade though....I am sure that is why his edge alignment isn't always perfect Thanks for sharing

Very whippy blade but I found it for $6 at Target. I think the flexibility is the only reason he hasn't managed to break this one yet. The one with the plastic dowels in them only last about five minutes with that kid this things lasted two months already. Manufacturers take note "whippy good for three year olds" LOL.

No that was my neighbor Raul. I had a pic up as my avatar for a while, maybe I need to switch it back. There are some pics of me floating around here somewhere. I'll have to search some out, or put some up in the forum album.

You are fortunate that you have kindly neighbors. Not all men are that lucky.

I've had kindly neighbors, I've had others that made me feel like I was living in a war zone. I'm thankful for good neighbors I have had, because there are always worse.

Here here, I like old neighbours, their polite, keep to themselves for the most and if you explain that the scary sword bottle cutting has academic significance then their all praises and dont think your a dumb nut
Yeah my boys 2 1/2 yrs and I've caught him in the garage with one of the little plastic swords and I hear a "hollow thunk" and go in to find him propping up empty bottles and smacking them with it ......... they pick up on everything kids

Well, I still have yet to get a real sword, and they've already seen the machete used as the tool it's supposed to be when some branches were bloking the drive, but they have caught me practicing sword forms out doors, I just explain it's taiji and I do it more for health and they back off. The little one was going after soap bubbles with the rubber cutlass today, can we say speed drills... LOL.

Hey, as long as his interest is the main motivation, I'm willing to go with it.

LOL awesome. My three year old daughter sees me practicing in the yard, or when we go to a friends to spar. She keeps finding SLO and wanting to swing them around. I was in my garage a couple weeks ago working on my car, when she wandered out to see what I was doing. She found one of my foam-covered-wood-dowel swords. She picks it up says, "Look daddy, sword." Then proceeds to thwack me in the back with it. LOL cute.

That's a good thing, since shield maidens are rare these days.

That is precisely why i love that $6 cutlass I found at target, my son's high "Zhou" thrust comes about precisely to my "Ahem...." and that particular blade is soft enough to prevent my getting hurt from him getting a little wild with it. Does a number on those maple leaves though.
