I agree with BrissyBeater. I also have the CS Cutlass and like it for what it is. Beware ordering from a discount store as the first one I got was a 31" blade not the 25". It was a bit much for me and had to trade it to a large Viking friend. As far as I'm concerned the cutlass is a keeper.

Look. I been smokin' acid and shootin' pot long before most a yuz were even a gleam in yer daddy's eye, but this time I been hooked! I only got 6, and that's countin' a hawk and a machete, but I heard it's not the size that counts! Now, on the other hand, as a single guy I'd be willing to help out some of the sorry, er, happily married addicts out there who might need to hide their habit from the little lady. Just PM me and we could arrange a "score". I promise I'd take good care of 'em! So Mogur, are you offering to hide some swords for us sorry married addicts or to "score" with our little ladies as a diversion while we hide them ourselves? ;D Um...yes.

My name is J and I have an addiction; I currently have 8 real swords and any number of wallhangers that I've kept for one reason or another- usually to remind me of how much of a D.A. I was back then. I can only shake my head and chuckle about it now.
The thing is, I not only want more, I want more expensive too...and the two sentiments only mesh well when you have a Black card and/or a reasonably large bank account, neither of which I have so, here I am, with the rest of you, champing at the bit for this sword or that, or all of the above...
Odingaard, Shadowhowler- if either of you have need of extra storage space or looking to get rid of a few pieces, I'm more than happy to oblige the both of you. MM hmm. lol
Pretty soon, I'm sure I'm going to have to start hiding swords but I'd have to hide NEW swords and what fun is that? She's too damned observant, always knowin which sword is where and how long I've had it...lol

Dont get me started on guitars and if you are into them then I more than understand that addiction. That is my first love and I have really had to cut back and stop that addiction lol. e.g. I have: 5x Fender Strats 2x custom ESP 1x Gibson Les Paul 2x Lap Steels 1x dobro 2x Classical guitars 4x steel string acoustics 1x 12 string acoustic guitar and I am not even going to go into amps and effects gear and other odd insruments around the house. No I think I have the sword addiction under control ;D Ps: I am a working guitar player as well as a sound engineer so I try to tell myself they are work tools ;D hahahaha yeah right ;D

I had 21 guitars but sold quite a few like I said being out of work sucks but I would rather keep the house.I'm sure we all kick ourselves for selling something we loved at one time. All thats left. 69 les paul deluxe, - 2002 wolfgang (the best guitar i have ever played) EPI tony Iommi SG, - EPI SG with EMG's painted with a Zakk Wylde bullseye OLP Axis copy,- Samick Greg Bennett Torino

Hee Hee... Well there's the damn lenses for the camera too. At least I'm down to one camera and a decent kit. I shoot Canon and those L series glass are spendy. My biggest dilemma is that the kids are getting old enough to start college. Damn tuition and books.
I am getting better at limiting myself. My motto is you have to use it to keep it. But there's always the temptation... such as a nice Albion Munich. Sigh... I guess I'll need to figure out my priorities again. I may have to give up the rest of my vices and start squirreling away some extra cash. I can do that, I might be the most boring person in the world but at least I would have a goal... a nice sharp stabby goal, mmm, stabby.

I played one on "Have a cigar" a year ago at one of the shows and man did it take a bit for me to give it back to its owner... NEVER sell it if you have a good one they are worth every penny and more. Lol sorry getting off topic but yeah good guitars are hard to find and even worse to sell if you love them so I feel your pain in having to sell up some. swords are the new addiction and I am having fun lol

What addiction? Truthfully, I can stop anytime I want...I just don't want to right now.
Isn't that what all addicts say?

Until reading through this thread, I never really knew just how much of a problem I had.
My European swords, all Del Tin from MRL. (3)
The Maldon Viking sword The River Thames The War Sword
My Japanese swords. (10)
Hanwei Bushido Furubushido (HandmadeSwords.com) Crane Daisho A Horse themed Katana from Roninswords (the prize for guessing a number) UBC Custom Daisho (by Kensai) Iaito from Roninswords. 31.5 inch Nagasa (It appears to be a blunted DF O Katana) with green silk Ito and black Same Low grade alloy Iaito Daisho And I cannot leave out the Gunto I inherited from my Uncle
Then of course I need to include the Kokoro Ichi I'm waiting for and the VA Hedemark I have on pre order. (2)
For a total of 15. This does not include the two SLOs I received as gifts nor does in include the 6 Fraternal swords I own.

Then spend the money you saved for their tuition on swords. You can even justify it by explaining to them that they'll care more about their education if they have to work for it. See? Win/Win all around.

Do your kids share your sword passion, maybe its a good way to convert them and they buy their own swords which see alot of your hand time ........... I try to squirrel the cash away,I'm really good and habitual about that .......... then a bill comes and I look at the saved money and sigh and go to the bpay function under "Stuff you pay all the time we will forever remember the account details". Death, Taxes AND BILLS!!!! ........... at least I have ZERO debt .......... what price glory ...........

I'm so happy to have found this thread I have tears in my eyes. It is so good to know I'm not the only one.
I am an addict and I'm not ashamed to admit it. In the last 9 months I have scored 8 blades and have two more on the way. I got a fix just this morning from Marc over at Wiwi, a DF Shobu. He's a great and discressionary dealer.
Like Shadowhowler, the little missus had me on sword restriction for a time, but after a house tiling escapade, I am now free and happily rolling off the wagon, hence the shobu. That was the worst two months of my life. I say indulge the habit, there is only one fix for it!

Wow, lots of axe folk here. I had noticed that about the sword crowd before but this may be the most I have seen mentioned in a single thread. Not so long ago, I figured my pace with adopting guitars would be equal or moreso than swords. That didn't last very long, as it is rarely more than three of my guitar brood are out and played regularly at all these days. I did pull out the Dan Armstrong to restring it after adding a new trusss rod nut. Starting at the higher end with guitars has been somewhat the reverse of that in that I found I could never avoid some of the strange and inexpensive guitars I've come to love. My hands down favorite is still an old Sears Best Harmony Rocket. My production swords boomed for a few years but the past few years have really been like my guitar acquisitions in finding less expensive but quite nice older swords from the 18th and 19th century. This year has been brutal on my cards and I really need to just pour them in with a glass of water and freeze them until entirely paid off. I can't say I haven't not tried to boost the economy in helping the markets move. Of seven more swords in since last fall, two were $100 and less productions and add a couple of decorative swords I will still be making an example of. The tangs of those were bent and broken off in seconds to be used as rod stock for something else. So, that is actually four modern made swords, of which two are simply for stock use with parts left over. One antique was actually kind of a swap at a show and sold it to a friend to fund something else, my adopted mle1854 French dragon. Right after that, a five ball hilt eaglehead pommel. Then in spring came a rather pricy but quite nice 1800ish spadroon that is rather singular and had its original scabbard intact. Then a composite hilted cut done folded steel 18th century smallsword followed by A Fagan Arms sale 1840 type cavalry sword, then just this last weekend with a crusty (but kinda obscure) short bladed 1860s nco sword. I'm missing in my counting somewhere here. One of my A&A swords is slated to change hands again this fall and I may winnow out some more but like my eight days a week assortment of guitars, have never really ben able to let them go. I have had the Dan Armstrong set to go to consignment for almost two months now. Cased and ready to go. Every time I go to put it in the car to run it to a store, I play it a bit and put it back cased. The past week has found me piling stuff in front of it to somehow keep it out of mind but it's only a matter of time before I put it back in the cache and pull out the Rocket, or my Kay, or the Hagstrom I like to noodle new stuff on. I have my first modern bought reproduction where I'll trip over it. The Windlass version of Oakeshott's noted espada ropera. Obsessions and compulsions? Nah, not really. I only had three bids on yet more swords going yesterday I did set sensible limits though and it looks like they all went to other good homes. In between, watching the bay, working on other old stuff and bugging the folk here at SBG. Hotspur; I typically follow Ebay daily while watching my short and long lists of affordable antiques at dealer sites (in between visits to KOA watching the second hand Del Tin claymore)
