It's not functional. No matter what version you buy, DO NOT swing it.
Period.

Yeah... if a lightweight SS 'full-tang' katana can break while swinging it, that monster'll snap like a twig under its own weight. Sorry to break it to ya, kid, but I'd say that for a functional one of those, you'd have to go custom. Yeah, yeah. I know. Who am I to call anyone 'kid'? -Slayer

lol no. Customs like that will cost you $$$. Depends on how much you really LOVE that game. But for a functional buster you must be cosplaying FF all day long to be wanting to spend the money on it.

Ummm... what would you consider 'horrible'? I bet some of the custom 'greats' like Brenno, Tinker, John Lundemo, or Matthew Stagmer could make one for varying prices. Although, Brenno's stock width is limited, so he may not be able to do that... Matt Stagmer is pretty awesome at making anime and video game swords, so I'd say he would be the place to start. He's a member here, so you can shoot him a PM if you want. I'm no expert on pricing, and you'll have to ask him for exact estimates and stuff, but I'd think that you be looking at $500+ for a tactical version, let alone one with a seperate guard and pommel... However, that would be a sword to treasure for LIFE, not just a throw-away waste of money. Angus Trim MAY do custom orders, and I've heard that he can get some pretty wide stock. If Matt's busy, or you just want to check with a few people, you could email his 'contact', Christian Fletcher and ask. Gus doesn't do customer relations personally, in most cases. Those two guys work together, but Gus spends most of his time making the blades, not chatting about them. ;D I hope this helps! -Slayer

Angus Trim would NOT take this on. Very few smiths could, and even less would.
The problem is you can't make it functional. It's so ridiculously big that even if it was strong enough and well made as a real sword should be, you would hurt yourself just swinging it.
If you want a sword that cuts, get a proper sword. If you want something for costuming, get one of the wallhangers.
If you really wanna spend money on something you'd cosplay in, have a shop machine something out of Aluminum or find a prop-maker who deals in latex-over-skeleton construction. Either way, you're going to be paying a lot more than what you would for the production wallhangers on the market, and they still won't be swingable.
When it comes to a functioning buster sword, you're barking up a tree that's not even there.

There are a few Buster swords floating around on eBay...look for the ones made of aircraft-grade aluminum and you may be able to take a few swings with it w/out breaking your wrist or damaging your shoulder and elbow.
There's a smith out there who would do it, but you'd have to be willing to pay the price and for a blade that wide and long, you'll pay a PRETTY penny for it.
If you go the eBay route, you'll find a number of the 52" versions going for pretty cheap. Its a wallhanger, even if you get one custom made, there's no way they could make a blade that wide and that long and STILL be manueverable in combat forms. Just no way.

I love Final Fantasy, I really do. But I think in this case there is definately a reason they call it Final Fantasy. It's a cool sword though

Yeah, I could make something like that out of hardened and tempered high carbon steel, but you'd never be able to use the dang thing and it would cost over $1000. In any case, to make something like that out of hardened steel with an edge would just be dangerous to the user. If you want one you can "swing around", you could have one made out of mild steel with a false edge that was not heat treated and that would hold up to swinging (assuming you were somehow able to lift it).

Yeah, everyone's seen that guy.
Anyone can torch-cut a massive piece of 1/4" steel, crap an edge onto it, and call it a sword. There's no way he has a heat-treating method capable of hardening and tempering a piece of steel that thick, that wide, and that long. For that, you would probably have to go the industrial route and find a company that hardens large steel parts en masse.
He can't even use it, all he can do it pick it up and let it fall. Just holding the thing, he looks like he's on the verge of a hernia.
The dimensions simply don't allow for function. Even if you WERE strong enough to whip it around like a normal sword, the blade-size is too much for the tang. There's not enough width in the handle to support the blade.
Get the wallhanger, and hang it on the wall. Save the cutting with a real sword. Trust me, once you try it when a decent sword, you won't mind the fact that it's not ridiculously massive.

Hey bro don't dis on this guy. Hes awesome and i don't think that you could make a sword like that. That thing is functional if you could get a strong enough guy. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean its not a sword. If you got nothing nice to say don't say it.

HR's not dissing him. He's pointing out facts, sans emotion. Like he said, anyone can cut a shape out of steel. You should give it a try. It's not that hard. You can invest in tools and safety gear rather than wallhangers, and make your own FF 'swords'.

Trust me, i would love to start making swords but i just don't have the money. HR is just pissin me off because mike put time, money and effort in to making that sword. It's split half and half: some people like it and other people don't i'm just sayin just because you don't like it doesn't meen its crap
