They're both ugly, why would anyone want to buy one.

kinda like those cocktail rings with the fake diamond the size of a cue ball. GAAWWWDY! good lord those are hideous. I guess they will appeal to someone and that's fine if it makes them happy but I wouldn't pose for a picture with those swords if they paid me and gave me the sword. although I might pose for the picture and take the money if they promise they won't make me keep the sword.

The sword was built to customer spec, as per a custom design sent to Ollin.
However aesthetically displeasing it is, it's still being ripped off.

Ladies and gentlemen I give you the sword, Excalibur, wielded by "King Arthur" (aka Saber) from Type Moon's Fate/Stay Night and its sequels and spin-offs. A very, very bad reproduction, granted. Come to think of it, that one might not be her Excalibur, but the other sword, the name of which I cannot recall... I get them confused; I'll ask some friends who are more into the Type Moon world than I am. I do quite like saber herself, though. Got a whole shelf devoted to figures of her, though I'm behind...

You know. I'd suggest you to research the subject a little before you jump to conclusions. I'm not saying it's not a rip off, but I'd give it about 50% chance at best. The trueswords.com one is significantly different ( and it's actually closer to the "real" original ). God it looks like a video game sword brought to horrible horrible life! Funny you wrote this, cause you're spot on. Both reproductions are bad tbh. The game / anime sword actually looked more proportional ( quite pleasing to the eye in my opinion, the guard's too oversized, tho ). Just like random said ( damn, you were faster than me ;D ), it's from Fate/Stay Night. You're right, it's called Excalibur. There was also the sword summoned by Gilgamesh, but if I remember correct, it was somewhat different. Don't remember the name, but it was supposedly the Excalibur's predecessor ( the sword the Excalibur's legend was based on ). Here's a pic for everyone

I've been trying to find a good picture of Saber with Excalibur, but it's tough to get good art + good angle + clothes all in the same picture. I forget the other sword's name...started with a C, no? Here's a fairly decent illustration of Saber with both swords, albeit the ends of the blades are cut off: img1.gelbooru.com//images/1/c8e3825968d6ddb27506510a08bbeffdd470ac34.jpg?721Good ol' Gelbooru...........

They all look like clunky hunks of semprini. Not putting down Ollinsword, they were working from a customer's specs and did a damn fine job I imagine of making it the best they could.
The photo from the videogame with the hermaphrodite holding the swords, if the guard was made thinner they could have gotten below 4 pounds possibly, but the guards on both the junkswords ER I mean trueswords website and ollinsword's look very thick.
Actually looking at the Ollinsword design the guard is quite thin, I wonder why it is so heavy?

Not really a hermaphrodite, Sam, just a nod to the theory some hold that "King Arthur" may have been a woman. Or something. Bear also in mind this game is pretty much an adult erotic dating simulator with a bit of a story behind it. To over-simplify things and piss off the fans, that is. Also, that particular image isn't exactly the best of the swords; angle etc. does bad things.

Ok, not sure whether this is enough to brand me as a Type Moon otaku, but I'll give it a shot First of all, Random you're wrong. On the pic you linked us to, Saber's holding 2 Excaliburs. There were 2 versions of the same sword. One ( the more clunky one, thanks for the right word Sam ) is the "not complete" version and the other one ( more ornate, slimmer ) is the "real deal". I've just replayed that episode of the anime and there's no mention of a name ( quick google search didn't give me any answers either ) of the other sword. Gilgamesh only calls it "the sword stuck in the tree that grants sovereignty" of Norse mythology. It looks somewhat different from either of these. Whether there was such a sword in the "real world" mythology I'd like to know if someone has any info.

Whoops, well, I was just chatting with a fellow who knows a bit (the guy who knows too much is apparently not in presently) and he agreed that the picture I linked was of both Excalibur and Caliburn, and adds that the sword Gilgamesh refers to is unrelated to the two... If only the other guy were in...he'd be more than happy to angrily educate me.

Ah, sorry, maybe indeed the name of the other sword is different. Long time since I was last interested in Fate/Stay Night. The other sword is certainly related to the two, at least in the anime. The exact quote from the English subs: "The 'sword in the stone that selects the king' you hold... came from the 'sword stuck in the tree that grants sovereignty' of Norse mythology; this sword is the origin of your sword's myth." Also, I disagree that the game's nothing more than an adult dating simulator . I haven't played Fate/Stay Night, but based on my experience with Tsukihime I'm pretty sure it's mostly storyline and only some small amount of sex. I can't wait when they'll make a replica of this . ( yeah, this is a sword ;D )

Ditto on the erogame but I do enjoy picking on Type Moon fanboys. From a chat with the fellow I mentioned earlier, He also shared this, from the game directly: (apologies for its width ) I sort of fell out of the Fate universe around the end of the /Stay Night anime. Have no interest in /Hollow Ataraxia or anything following. The original Saber was a fleeting interest for me, though the new Saber Lily stuff that's coming out is beginning to rekindle that interest... Just for fun, he's gotten this shot of Gilgamesh's sword from the game:

Now - the funny thing is that in the real world myths both names seem to refer to the exact same sword . Myself I'm more interested in the Tsukihime series. More interesting plot idea in my opinion.

That's what you get for comparing mythology-inspired fantasy to mythology. Tsukihime does have a more rabid fanbase and I'm sure there's good reason for it, I'm just not much of a fan of VN's and such. I tried once to "play" Fate/Stay Night but about half an hour of reading later I decided I'd try again some other time. Never managed to get to that "other time"...

Heh, I have had many things that I "decided I'd try again some other time", too. Guess we have turned this topic into some kind of otaku discussion

I wish I could find that "Anyone for Anime?" thread of ages long past so I could revive it...but I might make a new one, perhaps on a broader scale... Either way, the "history" of this "sword" is certainly appropriate discussion, no?
