Jonathan, didn't you say you decided to get the norman? Another question, why don't you buy the Tinker Longsword? It handles at least as good as the VA practical LS and has a better blade (which is why I got a replacement blade and make the grip myself). Now, since the problem with bad edges is out of the way it seems like a no brainer option to me. I think it's better than the VA practical LS. Overall I think Tinkers Hanwei swords are better than the VA practical line.

I was going to get the norman, but recently I was having a hard time deciding if I wanted it, the viking or the european XII type. I don't really know what I am going to get, but I think that my luck has just improved...unless it is destiny.

Jonathan,I have to agree with 'chenessfan' that if it was me I rather go for the Tinker 9th Century Viking one,but that's just me and honestly are really still new to this,I like the fact that you can order replacement blades(well that is what this site said) www.swordandaxe.com/hanwei-tinker-9th-century-viking-sharp.htmlDon't wanna confuse you or anything Jonathan,I know how it feels to be undecided.Luckily Randomnobody and The Ebon Paladdin helped me in deciding what sword I wanted Nah,me dont believe in luck, more like destiny

Don't worry, you didn't confuse me any more than I already was. I really like the looks of the viking, but also the norman. I don't think that I will get the European single hander. I might not get any of the three swords though, so we will just have to wait and see.

Jonathan...if you can't decide, you should plan to acquire all three. That way, you can decide firsthand which you like and the one(s) you don't, you can sell to us. Don't worry...we'll wait.
LOL

Maybe I will have all three, but it could be years before I have any of them at all, because I have a plan. It is a secret though, at least for now.

Speaking of helmets, I wish I had a norseman's helm. I've got one...you can get'm at pretty decent prices if you check eBay - some are more suited for battle than others. You're a smart kid, make sure you read up on it and ask any questions that arise before you bid. On sword counts - only three? That's pretty ambitious, to think you could limit yourself to only three but hey, we're all wired differently, right? I've got 6 decent swords and a number of *ahem* wallhangers; the only reason why its only 6 at the moment is because my wife claims there's nowhere else to put another one. But if I put those 6 up on the wall, that frees up a table or two- then I'll have to 'refill' those. LOL Hey, I could be like a lot of my co-workers and drink this amount of money up at the bar nights and weekends! That's how I justify the expenditure...that and it really makes me happy.

I have 7 swords, 1 wall hanger. My wife keeps letting me get more because for every one I get she gets one too.

I have six swords, four wall hangers, one decent sword, and one tank sword. Wall hangers: swords of the imortals (2 swords) from the movie 300, they are crap. Athenian sword: Also crap, but looks cool. $20 Falcata, less crappy, but still pretty bad Decent sword: Mysterious Scottish claymore, of decent quality though. Good sword: My DSA Two handed gothic, I love it My mom supports me liking swords, weapons, armor, shields, and medieval stuff for some reason, but my dad is strongly against it, so no more swords for me until I move out I was rather distraught when Dad told me Not even something as blunt as the I-beams from Angus

I have two wallhangers, and zero swords. The wallhangers actually look nice, but they are still wallhangers. Ebon, I wasn't limiting myself to three, I was saying that eventually I will probably acquire those particular three over time. As for limits - the skies the limit (and lack of money, lol).

Well study hard, get a good career that you like and makes a little more then average and then you will be buying all the swords you like .......... and time to mature ones tastes never hurts either

As far as academics goes, I am somewhere in the top eight in my class (grade). By "maturing one's tastes" do you mean outgrowing swords? I doubt that I will ever stop liking swords.

The older you get, the more swords you want. I have loved swords my whole life and will never stop getting more.
