Okay a mild reproach because it is somewhat dangerous to do that...even if I may or may not have done something similar on something that may or may not have been less stable as it may or may not have been missing two wheels....
But it is still pretty funny...and at least you kept the speed reasonable...and yes you do need a horse.

Most excellent ! +1 I thought of trying this on my bicycle, then I remembered I enjoy life
*Edit* Though that may be debated when you consider the fact that I jumped from a moving car last week... :S ( It was fun, I dont recomend it )

Shooter, too fun, now back up and do it again.
Left hand throttles were stock on Indian Motocycles for years so the police could ride withe left and shoot with the right.
Taran, there are NO BRAKES on horses, and it's a lot further to the ground when you fall off. Also much easier to rig a deadman switch on the atv. ask me how I know... Kenneth

Horses don't have a tendency to capsize when you get half the wheel/legs on an incline. Besides, any competent rider knows how to bring a horse to a stop without reins. And should have a good rapport with a horse he owns. Kinda hard to develop a rapport with an ATV.

Im just thinking the pedaling part might make it a little tuff and yes doing it on a motorcycle is absolutely insane, but would be so fun !

First of all: Mike, I LOVED this. very entertaining, but you do realize this is exactly the sort of thing people who don't understand us (sword people) do to mock us. don't get me wrong I loved it, but I can laugh at myself too.
Morpheus has a horse and she's a beauty. I saw her in one of his videos "UBC Samurai vs. Evil Pumkin Head" but he didn't do any swordplay from the saddle. I would practice EXTENSIVELY before cutting from horseback even if I was really good at both cutting and riding. please remember the horse is an innocent living creature that probably loves you very much if you've taken good care of it, so to endanger it by randomly cutting from the saddle without sufficient training and practice would be terribly irresponsible and would make me sad.
I like what Mike did here. that was fun.
I have a friend who does Civil War re-enactment and he was telling me about mounted sabre cuts one day and he said that you have very few options from horse back if you want to not endanger your horse. the first cut Mike did was the kind of cut he reccomended. the second cut Mike did was the kind of cut he reccomended NEVER to do. appearently it is easy to catch the horse's neck on follow-through with that type of cut.

That was very ingenuitive, Mike! You are lucky if you got to ride horses when you were younger. My boss considers himself a cowboy of sorts, and he has several horses. He loves to go "roping" as he calls it, with his friends. I am hoping that one day when I get my complete crusader/templar outfit that he will let me sit on one of his horses so someone could take a picture. I'm working on that myself; I have the kit, need the horse. Mike, I couldn't see the video...stupid flash updates and no admin rights here....but from everyone else's posts I can imagine what you did and how cool it must've been for you. To say that I envy you would be like saying 'water is wet' or 'the sky is blue'...but hey, I appreciate you sharing this with us. What I want to see next, is someone in full kit, on horseback cutting melons or some other media. Where'd I see that? Oh yes, the Patriot...Jason Isaac's character (bad guy) practices cutting from horseback and it looked very cool. Plus, its a dream of mine, of sorts.

Firstly, Very Cool, Mike! +1 from me too, and Thanks, Thanks Thanks! Secondly, you guys should hang out in the 'Post Renaissance and Military Swords' section occasionally... ;D /index.cgi?board=military&action=display&thread=9192 Apparently the swords used in this test were original cavalry weapons from the Royal Armouries collection, not replicas. Wow! Cheers Marc E

Ok, Mike that rocked.. I have NEVER seen anything like this... +1 my cutting man!!! BUT BE CAREFUL WITH A REAL HORSE!!!!!!!!!!!!I recently had tried some mounted cutting from my horse and had a horrible accident.. I am fine but my horse got a nasty cut from my sword.. the vets did a really good job saving him, and he is doing fine now, but a real b***tch to get the saddle on ever since.. I have a shot of him below.. -gaffer
