I used to be quite the horseman. Rodeoed at the age of 13 through college as a calf roper. But I moved on and the horses were sold off to those more deserving. For rounding up cattle and hunting, I've been using this old Honda 4 wheeler for the last 15-20 years. I guess it had to come to this... Is this goofy or what?

I don't think this is goofy at all. There is a whole section of mounted combat in Talhoffer's fencing manuals. I think Kal has a mounted combat section as well. I've always thought it would be difficult to explore such techniques with real horses, mostly for safety reasons. Sure, you are closer to the ground on a Quad Runner but the same principles apply.

Goofy is not the word that comes to mind at all. "Freakin' cool" is a lot closer to what came to my mind. I wish I had an ATV and the space to do that (not to mention the skill).
Let us know when you get a horse. We'll have yet another reason to be jealous of you.
+1 for that and thanks for sharing.

A horse would be better ... If I remember correctly (and my forgotten source was right), knights could ''steer'' their horse using their hips and legs, which freed both hands. Also, horses are hard to beat when it comes to miles-per-gallon Seems like our hi-tech elite mechanical tools got outmatched here Seriously, a fun clip to watch, +1 from me.

Horse or fourwheeler: which is better for Z-day?
Seriously awesome. I wish my fourwheeler worked...
And such a dramatic opening! You appear in the distance, and raise your sword! The bottles tremble in fear! You gun the throttle, and cut the evil invaders down from their stands!

That was cool, now I know I need the brake and shift levers on my bicycle reversed to try stuff like that. (Not really, I would end up in the ER way to easy doing anything mounted) +1 for the vid - that was cool.

That was very ingenuitive, Mike! You are lucky if you got to ride horses when you were younger. My boss considers himself a cowboy of sorts, and he has several horses. He loves to go "roping" as he calls it, with his friends. I am hoping that one day when I get my complete crusader/templar outfit that he will let me sit on one of his horses so someone could take a picture.

Good going, Shooter! You looked kind of like Indiana Jones there for a while. Don't think he ever used a sword though.

Dangerous (but cool). Not goofy.
Much, MUCH less dangerous with a horse, because they are reasonably intelligent animals. 4-wheelers, not so much.

Mike I am appalled. This was completely reckless and utterly dangerous, and you should never have posted a video here. Think of all the poor, misguided children who are now going to try the same, believing themselves just as capable as yourself. I hope you realize what you have done. Or something. ...My turn next, 'kay?

Another question, actually. Which hand is your throttle on? I kinda figured most of these things were righty-based, but clearly yours is not. A pedal, perhaps?
I've laughed a few times at the idea of riding around on my scooter cutting this and that with one or another sword, but I'd have to cut left-handed, or cross myself to steer, and that would be awkward at best.

Long ago I moved the throttle and starter/light controls to the left handlebar, ostensibly so I could shoot with my right hand. But it works for swordplay too. Just look at the cable and control arrangment and attachment on your scooter. You might be able to simply move them if it uses a thumb lever. That then becomes a left index finger "trigger-like" arrangment.

Interesting. I likely won't dare to attempt it but one never knows.

Ive always wanted to see someone cutting from horseback, I guess this is as close as we are going to get. Unless we have a member with a horse and the skills to ride while wielding a sword
