That tang is 19mm I believe. Some of mine big ones are over 25mm But it's still ample. Ah, more the fool am I, for doubting the #1 power of the Fable-Tang.

Hey leoghen, yep there is a little hole in the tang. The pommel will be hot peened but I like to pin the grip on as well. I also use the hole to suspend the blade during the heat treatment. Thanks kaijinbutsu Thanks Edward I'm not certain yet if it will be possible to make any for sale. I had been thinking if any were to be sold, I would make the bronze parts and then let Brendan make the blades. This particular one pictured, however, won't be for sale as there is just too much time invested in it to be able to sell it for any kind of reasonable price

Yep leoghen, a little extra insurance never hurts when dealing with big sharp objects Thanks Seth, but actually I'm kind of bored with this sword and don't think I'll bother finishing it. Just gonna toss it in the closet here... Just kidding I've wedged the cross on and wedged and peened the pommel in place. Both pieces now have their final patina as well. Here's a pic of the peen in case anyone's interested in that sort of thing. The slot in the pommel is slightly countersunk so I didn't really have to leave that much steel poking out the end, but I like the peen pretty beefy; especially for a sword this heavy. All that's left now is to do the grip and touch up the edges a bit. The grip core will be hickory. The outer wrap will be leather cord. The wrap will be a little inside-out. usually there is a wood core, then a cord wrap, then a leather wrap on the outside. But this sword will have a leather cord wrap as the outside of the grip. Since I want the extra strength of the solid leather wrap, I'm going to put that directly around the wood core, under the spiral cord wrap. Here's a picture of the grip parts all ready for assembly. Next to the tang are the wood core halves, the brass pin, the solid leather wrap (from the couch find) and the spiral cord wrap.

Now I have an idea on how large this tang is. It looks huge!

Hey Jonathan, yeah it's pretty beefy. If I made it any wider the wood would have needed to be attached as scales rather than surrounding the tang. Thanks Seth and here you go... The blade is 1075 high carbon steel, normalized three times then hardened and marquenched (ish), then double tempered. All the final shaping that was done after normalization was done with files and hand sanding to keep it nice and smooth. The cross-guard and pommel are bronze with an antiqued finish sealed with wax. The pommel is hot peened and both the pommel and guard are wedge fit onto the blade. The grip is a hickory core wrapped with one flat piece of leather then wrapped with 2mm natural brown leather cord. The grip is pinned through the tang with a brass pin and epoxied in place. Stats: Overall length: 41 inches Blade length (cutting edge): 22 inches Blade length from where it first exits the cross between langets: 28 3/4 inches Blade width at widest point (at ears): 3 1/4 inches Blade width just past ears: 2 1/16 inches Blade width 4" from tip: 1 3/4 inches Blade thickness: 1/4 inch Cross width: 6 3/4 inches Grip length (cord wrapped portion only): 6 3/4 inches POB: 4 1/2 inches from the end of the leather portion of the grip (1 1/2 inches from where the blade exits the cross) COP: 10-12 inches from the tip Secondary node: seems unusually long, taking up the first 4 inches of the grip. Probably has to do with the langets. Weight: 6 1/2 pounds Here are some more pictures.

You really have talent, stop whatever you do to pay the bills if its not related to swords, casting, sculptures etc and put your time into this. Really. You put time on this thing and it looks like it, be proud. 6 months ago when you first spoke of doing this i was ready to jump in and do whatever's possible to get my hands on one havent seen it completed... now that i see the finished product i'm even more impressed than what i could have speculated at this time.
You did it.

[glow=purple,2,300]Crom![/glow] Stright up amazing BB... that is THE sword man... for me anyway, when I was a kid, THATS the sword I wanted... its beautiful... yours even comes in about 2lbs light then the Albion version, if I recall coerrectly. God, I would LOVE to kill some pumkins with that thing... what a big, beautiful monster. If you ever do decide that you can make some of these for sale... PM me and talk to me about whats invilved timewise/price wise... you never know, if its at all feasble, if there is something I can sell to make it happen... I'd want to try. Amazing, amazing work... a pitafull +1 to show my awe.
