I choose claymore. It would be dangerous to swing like a madman with it when your opponent has a short, light weapon, but with short, controlled cuts and thrusts one should be able to hold off the small weapon guy indefinitely. I am 5'5" tall and about 140lbs but I still can wield my 4 feet and 4lbs Del Tin quite fast and I think there wouldn't be much time for someone to jump in between my attacks. You just have to keep your head cold.

Hmm I have to go with claymore. 1. range is always better IMHO 2. easily one hit one kill weapon, ending fight fast 3. "equally skilled" implies I actually know how to fight with the beast 4. (as cheesy as it is) I am darn impressed with what it can do after watching it in action on Deadliest Warrior.

i would choose the Lakonian over the claymore but if it was me fighting me then i could beat the opposing me with either weapon and it would all come down to luck
with the claymore i would remain stagnant and fight defensively providing an almost imposible target
with the lakonian i would antagonize my other self and attempt to provoke him/me which wouldnt work cause he/i would be expecting it but when that fails i would turn and run knowing he/i wont chase me but will be confused and durring his/my confusion, he/i makes a mistake through fatigue of holding a much heavier weapon and i/me would strike
so why you ask did i choose the Lakonian? because it would all come down to luck and i feel i would be much luckier with the Lakonian due to my personal fighting philosophy: speed is life

Its all about technique. Theres an old saying, "The strength of a blade doesn't lie in the steel, it's in the arm of the swordsman". I think the more knowledgeable you are and have better form, you will win against your opponent.

For me, first the choices that weren't given: 1. a pair of Chinese ripping swords ;D 2. a pair of Chinese hook swords 3. Odachi (wer'e out in the open remember?) 4. Katana 5. Bastard sword for the choices that were: Claymore Like Brissybeater said earlier: - half-swording, like Philip said earlier - spear, using the rcasso, and if this Claymore had a guard like the Cold Steel Zweihander, the wonderful and unexpected(by the opponent) "chainsaw" grip and stab. Also, wouldn't the Claymore be made of better steel? How about breaking the Lakonia using the Claymore's size and presumably superior steel.

Better steel? You mean...steel, as opposed to bronze, or...what?
Breaking it? They're pretty stout little things. Besides, anybody with a lakonian wouldn't be trying to catch a claymore with it. Hell, anybody with a claymore should hesitate to hit a lakonian the wrong way.
Better steel, though, is what gets me about that post. Depends who made the blades, when, where, and it goes on from there.
I still say I could take a lakonian to my claymore any day.

C L A Y M O M O R E. I would feel more comfortable fighting me if I had a longer sword. I wouldn't continually swing and miss like most people who chose the small sword assume will happen. I would hit me when I got in range, and down I'd go. Claymore for the win!

I don't know how many were assuming a repetition of swing and miss...though it does tend to happen. I'll keep my knife. I'm nice and comfy with knives. Swords tend to not like me.

For me, reach is everything like previously mentioned. Sticking with properly timed horizontal cuts and stabs I think I could defeat myself. Although the actual process would not be exactly as described.

We know which claymore it is, the hanwei claymore and the windlass lakonian. Now you guys who are claiming you would take the claymore, do you know how heavy this kind of sword is? You might get one wild uncontrolled swing with it and that would be the end of you. You can't break the lakonian with the claymore and the person with the lakonian is not going to stand in one place for your big life ending swing. The lakonian can be used to block by skating the edge of the claymore, rather than kinetically blocking. A weapon that is 55" long and 5 lbs in weight, plus a weight forward balance is extremely unwieldy, unless you have a build like Bren's. I would not take the claymore for the simple reason that I wouldn't be able to wield it effectively and so I am a dead man because I lose my biggest advantage, which is speed. Also depending on training, you can use the length of the claymore against your opponent by dancing down the edge of the blade and because they have to co-ordinate their retreat while balancing the claymore and keeping your shorter blade at bay they have more trouble. I personally would defeat the claymore wielder by dancing down the edge of the blade, into a forward roll (harder for the claymore wielder to back up fast enough to avoid my next attack and keeps me in close to use the claymore length against my opponent) and then a thrust into the groin or roll past and cut the achilles tendon.

What if the claymore wielder griped the blades ricasso and stabbed down? As I would naturally choose to dull mine, as I have no use for that area to be sharpened. I feel I am quite strong. Farm work does that for ya. ;D Not to mention my build is kind of big. Small frame but decent build. *Edit* Not proclaiming to be stronger as the only way to determine a winner between us would be a spar, nor am I comparing. I meant against myself for the most part, or you against yourself.

Hmm, isn't that a paradox? I don't have a TARDIS to hand at the moment, so no paradox for you! Even gripping the ricasso, level of training comes into play. Half swording a claymore is also not the easiest of techniques to just pick up, ok ricasso and stab, not so hard but there are other techniques based around the ricasso. If I am fighting myself I will kill myself with a lakonian, because I can't wield a claymore to save my life, as per the death by lakonian. Although if I kill myself with a lakonian I fail regardless because I am dead.

Your fighting someone of equal skill though, as in you're fighting someone who is as good with a claymore as you are with the Lakonian, no?

Sorry I mentioned that. I still think a Claymore is best suited for me. My friend says he would rather have the lakonian. But each person has a weapon suited to their own needs.

too easy - I pick either sword, it won't matter in a minute. I opt out of the optional matching top - and start to jump up and down. I walk forward to your transfixed and immobilized form and clock you upside your head with the pommel of whichever weapon I chose ;D.
what do I win?
