Against myself? Claymore. Reach is everything against me. I instantly thought of about 4-5 good jokes for that... but because your sick, I'll give you a pass. THIS time. ;D Thanks man. I left myself wide open. To be made fun of... God that would have made a horrible pun...

Hmm, if no shield I'd take the Claymore, provided it was well made and weighted it should be able to come in under 4lb, which means I can still use it single handed when I need to - it's not like it's some massive crowbar, it should still be quite flickable. If I could have a shield I'd take the Lakonian.

The guy with the shorter weapon has no shield? Greatsword, no question.

Yeah single handeds are only as good as whatever's filling the other hand, the claymore because of range then half swording as a spear, but if the bugger got in range I'd be done for

The guy with the shorter weapon has no shield? Greatsword, no question. Exactly. If it's the short sword AND shield, that changes everything and I take the sword & Shield combo... but sword for sword... Claymore.

Firstly if I had a choice of weapons I would not choose either, I have no tast for large heavy swords, and no experience of short swords.
However if they were my two choices and all other things being equal, that is an opponent of the same size strength and skill as me. I would choose the claymore for one reason. Psychology.
I have zero skill with a sword and very little experience in using a sword in combat, yeah I can cut a plastic bottle in half but that does not equate to any real world fighting skill.
The psychological advantage of someone armed with a 40” blade over some one armed with a 15” blade must be massive

I notice I am better with a longer sword. I am no good with a short sword.
And yes SWORD.

As the question is posed, I'd go claymore, claymore, claymore. If I could have two lakonians, I might be tempted, but I still think the claymore's got the advantage.
As others have noted, the advantage of reach is worth a lot, and the long two-handed grip means that it really gives up little in speed. Long quillions and a large pommel make effective close-quarters weapons too. So, for me, claymore. I came close to voting for option "C", however... ;D

Claymore for me, I look at it like 2 boxers of the same skill only one has a much longer arm reach, of course the other me I'm fighting may get pissed off and throw the shortblade, stabbing me in the chest.

I'd go with the Claymore, due to many o the reasons already stated. Even if the Claymore was 6 lbs, reach is a HUGE asset for/against me. The speedy li'l lakonian wouldn't stand a chance, assuming that it was another me that I was fighting against. ;D Oh, and it's good to have you around again, Seth. But what's this about you being sick? Maybe you need to change your answer to #3... ;D -Slayer

Claymore, this one's a no-brainer. more reach, more blocking potential, greater swing damage. Personally, i as well would like to have a katana in this situation, or any other single-edge curved blade for the matter.

You kids and your katana. So many other swords out there, what a shame.

Slayer: Nah, I will fight even if my eyes are red and puffy and I am tired as crap lol. I would lose, but better to die on your feet than live on your knees right? ;D Random: Agreed. I love Katana as much as the next guy, but there are others.

If I'm fighting the mirror image of myself, I'd take the small sword...but if I'm fighting the mirror image of myself, doesn't that also mean I take the claymore...? PARADOX!!! Really though, I know my limits, and I know I'm faster than I am strong. I'd tire myself swinging at me with a claymore...

I choose likonian. When there's enough space i would tire him out by letting him swing and miss.

Or that you would both choose the Small sword, as you would both decide you were better against yourself with a small sword.

I'll go for the lakonian. Since I am small anyway it more often than not ends up me having the longer weapon and still not having the reach advantage, bah. And from practice with Skall I know that I am best with sabre + dagger, so the lakonian is at least nearer to this combo than is the claymore. To be honest, I couldn't cut anything with Skall's Claymore but I love to stab, so hand me this nice little sword.
I have to agree that a claymore can have a psychological impact, but actually, I'd prefer going against a claymore to going against a two handed axe any day! And I know that a person that is alike me would tend to have breaks between two attacks, enough time to rush in... as soon as you conquered your fear, at least ;D

You kids and your katana. So many other swords out there, what a shame. As i said, it doesn't have to be a katana any curved single-edge blade will do. I'm just used to a katana already, so it'll be my primary choice.
