I purchased this sword in a Chinatown store because I liked the design, and because I haven't seen one like it before. I have exhausted myself in trying to identify the design type or any info on it at all. Please take a look at the photos and if you know anything about it let me know. The handle is big enough for about a hand-and-a-half; the blade is rather short, only about 20 inches, give or take. I'm pretty sure it's only decoration quality, which is why I need more info on it. I want to try to find a practical quality one. Thanks.

Looks like a short miao dao without the ring pommel, or beile dao type. If the blade was longer I would call it as a Zhanmadao but that thing is about 20" too short in the blade for that. Try Garret he's pretty much the expert around here.

Anyway here's an image of a Song dynasty era (this particular weapon first appeared then) Zhanmadao for comparison.
