Beautiful work Rich !!!! I like that wood...what is it? The leather(?) throat provides a fiction fit? Great job, and I'll bet a difficult one with that narrow of a scabbard. + 1 2 U.

The main body of the scabbard is lacewood. It's normally blondish, but when I treated it with tung oil, it turned too orange for my liking, so I went over it with walnut stain. The cap at the top is walnut, with a band of leather between two wire braids. The piece of wood I started with was so thin there was little more than a 16th of an inch on either side where the two halves are joined. I added a solid walnut cap to it for re-enforcement. The cap is recessed about 1/4" to fit the top of the shaft, and then slotted to fit the blade. I didn't know what else to do with it so finally I recessed it and laid in the leather band and wire. I'm still not sure it's done. I think the chape, which I stole from the original scabbard, needs dressing up. Here's a pic of that wood in the raw. I really had no idea how it would come out before I started.

Interesting... I was currious what sort of scbbard you would make for her. I like the wood very much... but I'm not sure it matchs the sword too well. I would consider black/blueing the pommel and gaurd now, or antiquing it in some way... I think it will help the sword blend with the scabbard better.

I didn't have a clear vision of how this was going to turn out when i started, just that I wanted to try that wood. Unfortunately the hilt is stainless so I can't cold blue it. Maybe I can get it Parkerized? Thanks for the input.
