i asked this question in the original thread but never got an awnser so ill re post it here
how deep can these engravings get? or are they more like a frosting? is it possible to purposefully, acurately and durably plate with a similar technique?
and is it possible to do these etchings on other metals like brass?

I'm not entirely positive of this info so take it with a grain of salt.
Electro etching normally removes .0001-.006 of an inch. You can etch longer or repeatedly to get a deeper etch but at some point the edges of the design will start to get fuzzy. You can plate by reversing the polarity of your leads but I don't know how well it would work. The plating that I'm familiar with involves immersion in a tank of electrolyte. It's basically the same thing but instead of a tank you are using a tiny puddle.
You can electro etch on any ferrous or non ferrous metal that conducts electricity. You can even plate stuff that isn't metal by painting it with a conductive paint. So yes, you can etch brass.
For the cost of a battery, some wire, and a few q-tips you can always just start experimenting.
