I decided to work a bit on a scabbard for my DT5161 this evening. I wanted to do something different, so I just let the creative juices flow over into the realm of the historically inaccurate. I used a stripped VA Practical Longsword core and chape - the pleather on it was so fragile, I ripped it in two places at the faire this weekend, so I decide to rip off what was left of the cover and redo it. I glued on the risers and made myself a stylized initial for my last name - 'S' - making it look a little like a coiled snake, yet in sort of a medieval sort of way. I covered it in red leather, but since I have so many red scabbards already, I just dyed the whole thing black. I then used a swivel knife to carve in some tribal looking details. It was interesting that the red leather underneath showed giving a really subtle flame effect. I dropped the whole thing into a baldric that I had worked on earlier in the year for this sword. It's not perfect, but it's definately a far cry better than the scabbard it was in. Probably run it like this for a few events until I come up on Tritonworks list next year. It was an interesting effect that I wanted to post in case anyone else was experimenting with anything along these lines.

Where do you get the time to do all of this?
Anyway, congratulations for another nice piece of work!

That is an easy question to answer....
I work rotating 12 hours shifts...two days on, three off, three days on, two off. I am literally off 15-16 days a month which is about twice the time your average Joe is off. During the week when I am off and home alone, I work on sword stuff! ;D

Hey that's unique. Those cuts make for a nice texture to the whole thing. Good stuff.
