I recently was shown yet another method to produce a wood scabbard core and have added it to my scabbard how to page.
It is under A Historic Method, and shows how to make one using slats bent around the blade. I found this very interesting, and thought some of you may also. There are several actual photos showing the method.

Hmm, that's really interesting. seems like it would be much quicker and easier than carving out the inside, though I expect it wouldn't work very well for some blade shapes - such as one with a large ricasso or something similar.
