So we got a cool cutting video thread. I was wondering if there was any interest in a picture version sorta. Anyhoo, I did this one a few minutes ago with a VA practical arming sword. It landed just like that.

Very nice, Rick! I think a picture version would be cool, so some of us without video cameras can participate if we make a sweet cut. Don't think we could base a contest around it, since it would be easy to fake, but it would be cool just to share.

Thanks, Edward.
Yeah, Aaron, that's a good point about people without video cameras. I wasn't thinking contest, just fun to share. I know I get all puffed up when I do something like that, I been known to drag my wife out to see. Sorta like that on a larger scale. LOL

I am the same way. I like to do a strut around the yard, holding my sword above my head, daring the neighbors to challenge my cutting prowess, yelling "I have slain bottles!"
I've got to stop watching Cast Away....;D

My favorite cuts. There is a video out there for Miura Takeyuki as well. ejmas.com/tin/tinart_taylor_0701.htmFun at home ^^^ ;D (not really) I used to favor empty cracker and cereal boxes. Miura is still a hero to my efforts, despite not much of a katana fop. Cheers Hotspur; not my pictures but done at one of the Texas folk gatherings several years ago. Not photoshopped at all but it was a matter of timing

Way cool, Hotspur. I remember seeing that one on SFI. Caused a bit of a stir till it got sorted out. Thanks, Ace.

Picture version would be cool for sure. I don't always have the camera running while cutting but it is always available. edit: It is a nice feeling when you make a cut like that Rick. Great cut buddy.
Hotspur, that would be very cool to see. Cutting a brick is very impressive for sure.

Is that brick cut photo shopped? Because I don't believe a brick would achieve that kind of trajectory from a cut with a katana.

Is that brick cut photo shopped? Because I don't believe a brick would achieve that kind of trajectory from a cut with a katana. It was staged but not photoshopped. Look closely at the prop under the corner of the brick on the stand. The other part was simply tossed in the field of vision from the photographer's perspective. Timing is everything in still shots. Note in the upward cut that the sword is long gone before the mat has gone anywhere. The A&A GBS shot shows someone basically falling though a mat with the pointy few inches of that sword. Cheers Hotspur; the Miura Takeyuki link I posted was the real reason to post to the thread. That is truly cool cutting

Glen, I've been wondering what the sword is in the second picture is since you posted it. I'm fairly certain you mentioned it was a custom, but do you have any more pictures of it? You could PM them as to not clutter the thread, I s'pose.
I'll have to remember to take pictures if I perform any cool cuts. It'd be dumb luck at this point, though. Haha

That would be the plain one here. Kevin Cashen is the smith. I don't know if he still has a four year back log. www.cashenblades.com/ Cheers Hotspur; Sorry, I don't have the specifications. Maybe next time

This is my cool cut. I know it's just a carton jug but I thought it was pretty cool that the top part didn't fall but stayed on the top of the jug after the blade passed through it. Btw, the cut was made with Hanwei Tinker Viking, factory edge.
