Hi guys. I found a site which offers high resolution images of the LOTR props which went touring. Swords: www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/Exhibit/WepEx.htmArmour: www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/Elf/ElfArmor/Third.htm(Navigate around the site for a while too, it's a very cool site) I was a bit surprised, but not unpleasantly, at the finish of the swords. When you see the rat tail stainles UC versions of the swords they are all polished up like an unusable shiny thing. But check out the high res shots of the hilts of Glamdring, Sting, and Strider's, and you can see that they have been left in a pretty rough cast condition. They could have sanded them back and polished them way more, but the rough cast state looks much more ancient, antiquey, and battle worn. I just though y'all might find it interesting. Here's an illustrative shot. I hate threads without pictures ;D:

cool stuff, I supose as film props they are desinged to be viewed from a distance, so they may have wanted to exagerate some of the wear and tear,

I remember Richard Taylor specifically saying he didn't want a 'conan the barbarian' look to the swords in an interview.

Thanks for the pictures Brenno! If I were an actor working on the LOTR movies, I would not have worked for money. I would have worked for props, armor, swords, and all the other cool things .

LOL @ sparky
Man, they shot for 15 months...you gotta pay a bill at some point during that time...but I feel you; some of the stuff WETA made was impressive and I definitely would've appropriated some of the arms and armor...if they let me get away with it.
Nice pic, OP...I love stuff like this.

Yeah they shot for 15 months or more, up to 6 camera crews filming at locations all over NZ any one time. And most actors were contracted for 2 years. As there was training before filming started. Horse riding, sword play etc. Imagine that. One of the actors said they did 3 birthdays there.

Brenno, you're not rubbing it in, are you? I was TOO salty when I heard they were making the movie...on second thought, I may have had to find a way to do it pro bono given the op. I mean...it was so, so freakin awesome.
