$500... you big spender. How about you just spend $100 and buy two swords with the change. www.ecost.com/Detail.aspx?edp=36730531&navid=155441519This is the camcorder I have. It is a nice and very stable so you can set it up on its own and it won't fall over. The quality is pretty good. There is no point is getting better quality because you have to compress to file to upload to You Tube. You Tube then compresses that further. The file must be under 100 mb and under 10 min in order to upload.. You will have to adjust the light exposure settings indoors otherwise it my come out to dark. This is what video will look like indoors after being compressed two times over. Outdoor videos in the daytime look the same as if from an $800 camera. In any case you have a pretty big selection at ecost.com They have very good prices. You can search google for reviews on other cameras.

I don't know much about this stuff. I use a Canon PowerShot SD950 IS digital camera that my woman bought me. I don't know what it cost but I hope it was less than the figure you mentioned, a person could get a nice sword for that. LOL

Hey dnacomp, let me know if you have questions about camcorders and cameras. that is my 2nd hobby. For 500 you can definitely get a VERY nice camera which takes excellent video. It depends on what you want, these days point and shoot cameras have excellent video taking abilities. But of course if you want a movie making camera for longer lengths then get a dedicated camcorder, which can also take pictures as a side thing. But of course the dedicated camera will be better for taking pictures and the movie will be a side thing, and vice versa with the camcorder. BUT, cameras these days are usually able to take very good videos as a side thing. 500 is quite a lot of cash for a point and shoot camera that takes good videos, if you really want to make the most of that I would get a Canon G10, which is a very good camera and takes very good videos on the side. Definitely good enough for youtube. Here is a sample video. and of course you can find many more samples on youtube. I'm sure there are plenty of reviews on the G10 too, you can get that one just slightly above 400 from a reputable online dealer such as beachcamera.com or BHphoto.com Now if you want something that is VERY high quality video and a dedicated camcorder, then I would suggest you look into HDD camcorders, high definition camcorders. Let me show you a sample video from one. this is from a canon HD camcorder that can be had for around 500. In that price range, I would stick with canon or sony camcorders, and if you want a camera with video taking abilities than just canon's prosumer or digital elphs. But like a lot of other people said, you can get a very good camera for 200ish that takes very clear videos from youtube, and use the rest on a sword This is what I would do, I would get a canon powershot SD880, and excellent camera that will take good videos. www.beachcamera.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=CNPSSD880ISGDTo get an idea of how that camera's videos will look, let me just give you one from my canon SD660, which is like 2 generations older than the 880...so basically 880 will look a lot better than mine, and this is what mine looks like. Then I would spend the other 250 on those new paul chen raptor series that are coming out shown below. www.wiwingtiswordsupply.com/specialoftheweek.htmlthe Shobu zukuri looks nice, so does the unokobi zukuri. Best of luck.

Thanks for the links guys! I don't why it didn't occur to me, but I should play with my electronics more I guess. I have a Sony Cybershot DCSW120 that may foot the bill for me already. I'll have to play around with it and see. I will however be looking into a dedicated camcorder soon as I need it to record the testings and tournaments at my martial arts school. The advice and suggestions are VERY much appreciated!

I always start with a name brand that I trust, then see what they have in my range. HD cameras are coming down in price; you may be able to afford one.

I have a SONY Cybershot DSC-T10. I have not been so happy with the quality of my uploads so far. I was thinking of getting a new one, but that would eat into my sword savings. Maybe I am just doing something wrong in my editing/saving/uploading?
