Dose anyone know how a gladius without a threaded tang is put together? I've asked this question on this forum before but never got any answers. I hope that's not because knows I mean, historically they would not have been put together with a threaded tang would they??

According to these ole boys here, The tip(of the tang) is peened flat over a washer or small stud.

Hmm...well, thanks for that link Rick. That makes sense...but what about gladii without a stud on the bottom of the pummel?

Ahh, you mean like the Gen2 models. I suspect those are screw on types secured with epoxy or something like that. I haven't seen any evidence that historical pieces were made any way other than peened as mentioned in that link I posted. I could be wrong, I'm in now way an expert.

OK...Yeah, that makes sense. It seems like someone told me that all Gen2s are peened but I guise they must have been wrong. Either that, or all Gen2s are peened -except for their gladii Thanks for your input Rick

I thought they are first threaded and then peened for security.

Luka, I believe you are correct, here's an example. It appears to have threaded rod welded to the end of the tang. Then the pommel screwed on and peened.
