Here is a video I got from a t.v. show called "Weapons of Ancient Egypt". It is about the Kopesh. It is quite interesting.

That's very interesting. I wonder how correct it is in the description of how the sword was used?

Khopesh are sexy swords, too bad so few people have made reproductions. It also reminds me of this one; Best of all it is sub 300 USD and custom made. This one is not egyptian though, it is caananite. I have been tempted by this beauty for some time. I am not sure how accurate it is to think that the false edge on the khopesh was used for hooking shields, if it was meant for that it would be more well...hook shaped. I think that, IMHO, it was used for being able to reverse the cut quickly or did more damage in the stab. Nice vid though

Ah very intresting, I've never really cared for the kopesh and to be honest I thought it was ugly. But when I watched this vid I realized that it's kinda attractive. Imo the shield hook thing sounds pretty logical, and there is a "hook" on the two first swords, then again you can use a sword in many ways and maybe only some used the false edge as a shield breaker.

Very good post. I always thought that this weapon resembled a beard-axe somewhat and might handle similarly. From what I see in the video it seems to handle more like a short saber or fachion.

Does anyone aside from Deepka make a Kopesh? That's functional? And doesn't handle like a curved crowbar?

It's the best Khopesh Manning makes, currently (they make two "Egyptian" Khopesh, those are boat anchors). It's a bit on the heavy side, but not terribly so. It feels and handles like a serious chopper.

Does anyone aside from Deepka make a Kopesh? That's functional? And doesn't handle like a curved crowbar? Well, other than Manning Imperial (mentioned above), there's Neil Burridge: www.bronze-age-craft.com/He makes two Khopesh, one is a Canaanite style very similar to the Manning khopesh illustrated here, the other is called a "budget" Khopesh, modeled after one found in King Tut's tomb. Neil has a reputation for making bronze swords that are identical to the originals not just in size, weight, and handling qualities, but also in the type of bronze used. I plan on getting the "Budget" model myself sometime in the next couple of months...

I like this blade shape...I'll admit, it was the Mummy movies that intro'd me to it. Might have to spring for the budget one and see what it's about. Ah who am I kidding; it won't be for a LONG while if at all. Thanks for sharing it though, OP.
Thinking about the whole Warrior series on Spike, I wonder if the Cika got its inspiration from the Khopesh; granted the second half of the Cika does not curve but it does have that wicked bend and then finishes off in what I call a butcher's paradise- wide flat blade perfect for shearing flesh.
Your thoughts, guys (and gals)?

My first thought on seeing the sica or cika or whatever it was, was "huge jambiya" but then I'm rather unfamiliar with that part of the world, especially from that time. I'd love to have a khopesh, but it seems there are no sharp ones on the market.

or you could just sharpen it. Being that its bronze, its softer than steel. I know they used 'stock removal' or a uniform lessening of material to make the edge but hey...those babies could still be sharpened I would think. Or hope.
