To have a point or not, sometimes it's not as much what we say as the way we say it.
Edit: Sorry, forgot to add: Nice review!

Back to the sword itself......do like the looks of this sword. Was wondering..... Since DSA is "known" for their sturdiness, I wonder what a sword of this design, fitted with a practical blade similar to the Hanwei practical h&h would be like or perform. I have not handled a DSA before , one reason for my enquiry. Would the flex of these be similar to, more or less. A little more flex than the practical h&h's and these may make decent HES- longsword trainers. Just thinking out loud.....it's 6:30 am , I'm at work alone, it's Friday, i don't get off until 5pm (as with every day's schedule 6:30 to 5 M-F). nice review musicalpoo cheers, Bill That depends on what blade you stick on it. If you took the hanwei blade itself, the sword would be WAY too hilt heavy with those huge fittings. If you made one with the same mass and distribution of mass as the DSA blade, only in training safe edge/temper/etc etc...then it should be okay...just really heavy. Which in of itself is kinda unsafe for WMA practice...but as long as you don't hand something like this to a new person who will over exert and lose control of the blade, or a powerhouse like tsafa, should be fine.

I'd also like to say that this sword from what I know of it I would never use it for WMA for the simple reason that the heavier the sword the harder it hits and the hard it is to control for the very technical and already aspects of WMA. It is probably a good sword and looks great and that is fine but not a WMA blade, especially after you see what it does to plate mail, we don't use armour in our WMA.

Hi Musicalpoo, Thanks for the review. Very well done. The pictures are actually pretty good. Just to add to your stats, the sword is 3 lbs 10 oz. I do agree with the scabbard. We offer the scabbards free of charge. We will be changing that shortly however. We will be making better looking scabbards during the next production. We will however have to increase the prices slightly. The new scabbards will still be made of wood, wrapped in black leather. We will however change the fitting and thickness. Thanks again for the review. Eyal, Darksword Armory www.darksword-armory.com

And giving a score above a 5 on an out of 5 rating system makes no sense. 6/5 structural integrity means it's stronger then physics would allow. A 6/5 sword means it's magic. Can't help but to think some people are being a bit hard on musicalpoo. I understand the rating 6/5 isn't exactly possible, however I think we all know what he meant by that was that it seems EXTREMELY durable and sturdy; above and beyond what he was expecting. I think many of you forget the very creator of this site reviewed the DSA Knight Sword and gave it a structural rating of... (drum roll please).... a 6/5. And I don't think anyone here can really argue that rating after seeing the test to destruction. Then again, knowing Paul, maybe his sword WAS magic!! Again lets not be too hard on the guy. Nobody wants to get a foul taste in their mouth about their sword; esp their first one. He might be hesitant about submitting another; and that does none of us any good. Even if people feel the ratings aren't accurate, (the benefit to the Pros and Cons system) we atleast get some good opinions as well as some beautiful pictures out of it. I hope I'm not talking outta line here... Again, nice job musicalpoo

I hope I'm not talking outta line here... Again, nice job musicalpoo I don't think your out of line at all... above all else we should be encouraging and supportive of new collectors and their reviews. I tried to phrase my concerns with the really high scores of the review as friendly and helpfully as I could. I have this very same sword... and in my experiences, while I LOVE my Gothic Two handed sword, I thought young Poo was obviously over excited and giving scores that didn't really fall in line with objectivity. I didn't mention the 6/5 specificly... I had seen and recall Paul's review where he did that, and I know a couple others have. It's just a sort of silly but unmistakable way of saying 'Holy crap! This is GREAT in this category!' My problem was that ALL the scores were 4 and 5 across the board... and I thought it was a bit much. Also... while DSA swords ARE DAMN tough... the Gothic would not be the toughest of the bunch. The long blade and very tapered point make it a bit less robust then, say, the Guardian or the Knight sword Paul reviewed. Anyway... in the end I think your 100% right... constructive criticism should be handled out gently and with an eye toward remembering what it was like when we had OUR first real sword... ;D

I have been toying with a "Pros/Cons" style of review that eliminates the numbers... check out my recent Samwise sword review for what I mean. I;d appreciate some feedback on that actually. And agreed, nice pictures! HA... You are WAY behind the curve here , boss ... I did away with the numbers right from jump street... Too arbitrary, perhaps if there was a single reviewer the numbers would mean something... but with multiple reviewers they are meaningless.... In fact ... here you go... my thougts on reviews are here

Hello MusicalPoo, congratulations for your sword, glad you are happy with it. I think that is one of the most important things when spending a few hundred bucks in this hobby; that you enjoy the sword that you get.
Marc R.; thank you for posting the link to your review guideline, an interesting and informative text in my opinion.
