What the guy describes in that video is how I was taught to throw a shuriken, Yeap, that what in Japan they call Shuriken-Do ![:P](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) As mentioned in www.secrets-of-shuriken.com.au/index1.htm"There are two basic types of shuriken, bo shuriken , which are long, thin and cylindrical, with varying thicknesses and shapes, and shaken , which are made from flat plates of metal." AFAIK, throwing stars and stuff like that more common in Ninjutsu

Why are shurikens illegal? ![???](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) It's not like they're any more dangerous than a throwing knife... -Slayer

Throwing knives are illegal too. Shuriken aren't illegal bris if you are practicing a martial art that involves them.
Was: there is another type of shuriken that nobody seems to know about, interesting that people are only interested in two. Also there is more than one way to throw a shuriken, I think I have a bunch of them somewhere. Shuriken are so easy to make it isn't funny, I even have a template for them.
Shuriken are lethal in the right hands, there are techniques that use shuriken for more than just throwing and as for the ability to conceal them, I have seen a guy I know to be carrying get patted down by the police and they completely missed the fact that he had 8 shuriken on him. Most of the time though a shuriken is a weapon for distraction, pretty hard to kill someone with shuriken unless you are a master of Shuriken Do.

Well in his videos, he usually has a pop can sitting on a stand and then if whoever is throwing knocks it off then yaayyyy! I don't know why the goal of his throwing isn't to stick it into a target instead of knocking a can off a 4x4.

oh, because shuriken were not used to kill a person as much as too "slow them down". if you feel how heavy the things he is throwing are than youll realize getting hit with one of those from thrirty feet is like taking a 70+ mph baseball to where ever it hits you

Did he tell you that? I don't know if that's true or not but it doesn't make sense to me either way.

ya, how does it not make sense? A shuriken normally was not a "killing" weapon. that one i got from history channel though.

Well it may or may not be a killing weapon. Although I think a good sized Bo-shuriken is more than capable of piercing deep enough to kill, if of course, you actually hit point first, which is why I'm confused why you guys throw at a post with a can on top instead of a board or at the can itself, and at such a long distance at that. I don't know, in my opinion it would be better to start at still targets about 13 ft instead of upwards of 60 or at moving targets, I just think it's counter productive.

He released a couple videos recently on his chosonninja channel where they're throwing from 60 ft or something and they still just knock a can off a post. Are you a student of his, cause he won't reply to any of my messages, I asked him why he doesn't have them throw at boards instead of knocking cans off posts and various other questions that went un-answered.

im a personal friend of his. im really sorry he has not responded to you, but he has 27,000 and his inbox normally has about 3000 messages in it so im sorry if he does not respond. the point of a can is accuracy. they also throw at boards, in some of his vids you see the door w/ a ninja painted on it. the small targets or to build accuracy over longer distances. when throwing at those distances it becomes hard to control to spin of the shuriken to make it stick so the main focus is just accuracy

The videos are great, I did some hawk throwing way back when I was doing mountainman rendevous but not much, I did enjoy it alot though and would like to start throwing again. I'm just over 2 hours away from Harmony over here in Canton so if ya'll ever have any competitions over that way let me know.

Yes , they are not primarily 'killing' weapons however a sharpened shuriken thrown skillfully at rather close range does have the penetrative strength to pierce say , the aesophagus or an eye-ball.

A bo shuriken has more than enough power to go through flesh, not just an eye.
