Sigma9, that is indeed a Windlass Mainz gladius.
Here it is compared to a Hawei gladius. /index.cgi?board=swordreviews&action=display&thread=8488
Here is a video of it in use after being sharpened. /index.cgi?board=swordreviews&action=display&thread=8575

Yes, it's a windlass. I profit about this topic : The last week i have seen this two gladii on the web : www.gemina.nl/images/Rizisepics/swords.JPGI found the Mainz absolutely marvellous... Does anyone know wich swordsmith made this one ? I'm falling in love with this sword ! I have send an email to the gemina website but no response for the moment. I imagine it's not a sub-300$ sword... Help me, i want it !

I have find it by chance in google during a picture search. It's from the legio gemina website (http://www.gemina.nl). That's really frustrating to don't know more about it, uh ?
