I got this early Atrim second hand from Lee's Armoury last year. It has a 31.5 inch blade is 1.5 inches at it's widest and weighs 2 pounds. The grip is 4 inches. It came sharp but with a fairly steep secondary bevel. I have been working on blending it into an apple seed edge off and on with varying levels of success until I got a 1X30 HF belt sander recently. I used this grinder to get the edge shape I wanted; Then finished off with 600 grit belt followed by a leather stopping belt with a green abrasive and got a decent appleseed edge. I did end up with a shallow grind mark from the grinder which I may or may not polish out in the future. If I was to do it over, I'd probably skip the grinder and go with a hand file, the grinder isn't very forgiving. LOL The result; I'm very pleased with this one. You can hear the ice falling off the trees from the recent ice storm.

Very nice cutting Ric. Was this your first attempt at taking off the secondary bevel? If so wayyyy better than mine!

Yes, it was. I put this sword thru a lot the last year. All kinds of files and stones and such. Best to go straight to the file and belt sander. Still, I'm way happy with how it turned out so far. I may try to clean it up a bit a some point or maybe not. LOL

Hi Ric, nice cutting as usual. Great sounds! From the sword and the environment. The midwest gets the BEST icestorms (well, best is relative, but your pics were cool ) I remember the sound of trees popping was kind of scary. Anyhow, could you comment on how this one compares to the 1315+ you showed us? Thanks, Debbie

Thanks, guys. This one is a lot of fun to use. Debbie, thanks. Yeah, my DJ was after me to stay out from under the trees. LOL These two are both great swords, the DS1502b(top) took a bit of work to get it where I wanted it but then again it was second hand and an older model, it has the advantage in thrusting due to the thinner profile blade and is a wee bit stiffer. Very fast in hand. The 1315+ is slightly heavier, tho less than half a pound as well as I can figure with my bathroom scale, it is still very lively to use. I'd say it has the edge in cutting with the wider blade, more devastating in the cut. Of course it's way prettier also.LOL I'm thinking of doing a video of the two together but I fear people are getting a bit tired of my back yard and of course I loathe making vids. HA!

Nice job with the edge and the video, Rick. Those cuts were laser straight. 3 bottles with the center standing. COOL!
That 1502 is a keeper. I have one just about like it and I can attest that it's "a good un!"
