I keep coming back to this thing to stare at it. You are a lucky dude, James. hehe, hey thanks pogo... It is pretty sweet, i actually will get "caught" by it sometimes... Where i have it positioned it is displayed in its kake against my west wall. (I don't have a proper tachi stand for it yet) You can walk into the room no problem because the door is also on the west wall so (obviously) your looking east when you walk in and don't see the sword. (maybe just a tad out of the corner of your eye). But leaving the room is a different story! Because when you head out of the room, there's the sword sitting just feet from the door. And it will "catch me", and keep me from leaving quickly. I end up starring at it and feeling the detail in the fittings, drooling ect. ect. I imagine it will pass, but for now, this swords presence near the door causes me many delays! I may have to move it to the other wall, but then i may get stuck as i come in the room! hehehe. It would be nice to see some forges start making some good quality throwbacks like this. There may not be a huge place in the market for it, but it beats the snot out the dime-a-dozen shinogi-zukuri with bohi blades that are EVERYWHERE...

A stunning and interesting sword. And impressive pictures with a lot of feeling in them, especially the last picture. You are a very skilled photographer.

Similar in basic appearance... But very different types of swords. The OP is a tachi, a kiri-ha-zukuri to be specific... These links are dao & jian. Could probably custom order one if you wanted to, it will cost though. Anyone who wants to order one like this i would be happy to write down all the dimensions, supply pics, ect.

Yes Dao and Jian for examples. But they will make the same blade as the OP. Hate to ask how much it would go for. Still a beautiful tachi.

Wow! Absolutely stunning Thanks so much for sharing this with us! It's so fascinating to learn about and definitely a rare find! This may be a stupid question but out of curiosity, you say that a lot of attention was paid to the details and functionality of the sword. Have you or anyone else used this sword? Is it sharpened? Thanks P.S. I would totally give you +1 karma if I knew how to do that +1 Karma!

you say that a lot of attention was paid to the details and functionality of the sword. Have you or anyone else used this sword? Is it sharpened? Thanks for the karma! I have not used the sword (i actually refuse to) and i don't think Sensei Dreier did either. By detail i was referring to the detail in the casting ect.. In terms of functionality, it is sharpened and more than capable of cutting. I mention the attention to functionality because historically many (but not all) or these types of swords were fitted with blades that were not intended to be used in battle. These types were very often used as ceremonial or decorative pieces. But this sword in the OP, being forge folded medium carbon core with 1070 laminated skin, clay tempered - water quenched ect. was meant to be capable of cutting. Even the spine side of the tip is DH on the cutting edge just before it tapers into a solid mune. Hope that answers your question...!

Yup! Thanks for the answer! I think that it's a good decision to refuse to cut with it

James: I would be interested in all the details on this sword, I really like the look of this sword and I don't often say that about straight bladed weapons.

Yeah James, all the specs mate, I am very curious about this piece. I can see why you've never cut with it, I think you'd lose my respect if you ever did because this is one sword that should be kept immaculate, it is basically a museum quality piece.
