I do like the blade - full bodied. Do you have a link to this knife Aku? I'd like to read more - especially about the lock.

Aku, Looks nice, especially for the price. Not much info about the locking mechanism on the eBay site. I am a bit concerned about the safety/security of liner locks though. I've owned a few pocket knives that had liner locks, and was never really happy with them, RE as to safety....always afraid that the lock would fail and close on my fingers. I would never use them in a thrusting-type movement. Cutting, yes.

Now, my sword collection MAY be a bit lacking, but my knife collection is NOT. ;D I've owned dozens of linerlocks, cheap ones included, and the lock has never failed. I've thrusted into trees, thrown them (and hit with every part EXCEPT the blade! ;D), and cut with them. Beklieve me, while the lock may 'seem' a bit fragile, it is most certainly not. Unless, of course, you get a faulty product which is already damaged. I'm no expert, but I do have a small bit of experience with knives... Just my $.02, lol! ![:P](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) EDIT: I HAVE, however, had 2 cheap 'lockback' locking knives fail on me.

Regarding locks - I've seen lock back knives fail (one cut my knuckle when it failed) and I've seen liner locks fail. Really it just comes down to chance. Obviously if you purchase a better quality blade the chances of lock failure are less but they're still there. In a folder the locking mechanism is the weakness in the knife. If its got no lock (friction only) like in the old days you've got some real concerns - and yet they used those knives quite a lot and that type of knife is still made. The lock back knife came along and became an instant favorite because it lessened the chances of the blade folding back on your hands... but didn't completely eliminate it. Same with the liner locks really - their benefit is the ability to be closed with one hand.
About the knife in question - it looks like a nice knife for the money. In my opinion the blade is a bit bulky for a folder but that's my preference. Also in my opinion you shouldn't be using a folder as a camp knife/survival knife. You need a knife that's going to be tough enough to baton wood, cut and thrust as necessary etc. The blade obviously has to have some meat to it too and as such makes for a very bulky blade in a folder.
Honestly in my opinion calling that knife a camp knife is stupid. A knife used for camping should be a fixed blade, full tang and tough. Anyway my 2 cents there - its a nice knife for the money (especially being spring assist) but its not my ideal pocket/folder.

NO.
First of all, this is NOT a CRKT knife. Columbia River Knife & Tool is a good company, but you wouldn't find a knife like this, from them, at that price.
Read the entire description, it's from the Columbia SPORTSWEAR company. This is a cheapo, "big" pocketknife sold in chainstores to cityfolk who've never held a knife before, but want to go on a "camping" trip.
Also, I don't think CRKT uses 440 on ANY of their blades. Their chosen form of stainless is AUS8(which is gosh darn terrific, I own two different CRKT M16 models).
Edited to add: Also, it's tip-up. I highly discourage tip-up carry for safety reasons. AVOID AVOID AVOID.
Edited again: I accidently said tip-down instead of tip-up. Tip down is GOOD. Tip-up is BAD.

Looks okay, though I'm really weary of the price...
I have an M16-04Z(the big one, lined Zytel handle) and a M16-13T(Titanium handle).
The 04Z needs to be taken apart, and the liner-lock bent a little, as it doesn't extend fully(there's a TINY amount of fore-and-aft play in the blade, when open). For this reason, if you get a Zytel handle, you might also need the correct size Torx bit to take it apart.
The 13T is solid as a rock.
I FULLY endorse CRKT. I just hope you're not bidding on a fake. I know there's fake Cold Steel knives out there, dunno if CRKT's have been faked. They are great knives.

I don't see what you've got against tip up carry. It's what we use in the police tactical training I took. I've never had a blade open in my pocket the blade is against the sean of the pocket. Tip up is faster for wrist snap opening
Any knife that get popular is faked. Go to a gun show and see how many fake CRKT's there are for $5.00.

I asked the seller if it was an authentic CRKT, and he told me it wasn't. He even offered to retract my bid, tho anyway some other fool ended paying more the cheapo than I paid for the CRKT with the Zytel handle.........

I don't see a problem in carrying a blade tip up... I carry one in my pocket like that all the time and I have yet to impale myself or cut myself. It hasn't once opened up in my pocket either.
Therefore I'd like to ask - What's the problem with tip up vs. tip down?

C/P'd from my post in the "Folding Kukri" thread, wherein I was asked the same question:
Other than basic preference, it almost no chance of cutting your hand.
If the knife is tip-up, and you reach into your pocket for your keys and the blade snags open just a little bit, the next time your hand goes into that pocket you are in for a painful surprise.
Tip-down doesn't have that problem. Should the blade open at all, sliding one's hand into the pocket will only have you contacting the spine, as opposed to the point/edge.
Now, any well-made knife has little chance of opening unless you purposefully open it, but accidents happen.

"As far as I know, yadda yadda yadda..." or "I was told it was when I purchased it..." Good call on asking. When dealing with fleabay, you gotta be damn careful. I buy VERY few things off it, I try to stick to dealers. Not going to find the amazing deals, but MUCH less chance of getting hosed. Though it's odd that the seller would admit it's a fake when asked, though still risk fraud by listing it as a real CRKT... VERY odd....

On second thought, maybe I misread.
Did you mean the Columbia Sportswear knife was the one you asked the seller about? Or did you mean the CRKT M16-10KZ was a fake?

No I asked the seller if the knife was Columbia Sportswear and not CRKT. The CRKT knife I bought is authentic (at least the seller told me that, and he has a respectable good feedback. The other guy (Columbia Sports) was honest and offered to delete my bid on the item....however some other might get an unpleasant surprise, spending $30 on an off brand knife............
