I was just wondering if there is any specific way I should care for a bare blade. My rawblade is going to arrive sometime this week and I obviously don't want it falling apart on me. Is there any specific way I should care for it? I live in Maine so right now it is pretty dry and cool. I was going to display it on this kake I have in my room. Should I put any material separating the black lacquered wood from the blade (like a velvet material in another kake I have) and is there anything else I should do besides oil it? And Should I oil the nagako? And If I hold it by the nakago I should wipe it off at least shouldn't I? Just anything would be helpful Cheers.

I leave mine alone.
I had it resting on the back of my recliner for a while, but the second time it bit me while I was reaching over it it was reassigned to the top of my entertainment center. If you plan to store it in a wood kake I'd definitely recommend some soft material between the two.
Oiling the nakago? Nah. Mine is starting to rust from me handling it, but I don't really mind. The blade itself is doing just fine.
Of course, I figure mine a user blade; it's going to see far worse than me touching the nakago and not wiping it off so I don't pay much attention to it. Your ideas may differ and you should act accordingly.

Best to keep something between the blade and kake stand (or any other foreign material it might touch).
The nakago is typically left alone to rust as it may. No need to oil it at all, but you can if it makes you feel better to keep it new-looking. That would not be traditional, though.
