So I've only got one design scanned, but I figured I'd post it here for fun. Hopefully you enjoy it almost as much as I do, Xa's are very near and dear to my heart. ;D

Looks like a one handed version of aragorn's ranger sword. Pretty nicely drawn .

Exactly what I had in mind! I've loved that guard since I saw the movie, but I'm just more into arming swords, so I took what I loved about the sword and made it into something I would love to use.
The pommel idea I got from an endcap off of those metal-bar headboards from an old bed my grandmother had. When she got rid of the bed, I snagged the endcaps.
Thanks for the compliments Cold. It started off as a very small drawing that was not done to scale (and with a different pommel) but I decided to redo it as a scale drawing and I was quite happy, though I somewhat think the fuller should be longer...

Where did the first picture you put up go?
Great job, btw!

I took it down as, after consideration, I felt this version looked better overall.
Thank you Sam and Slayer for the kind words.

Oh, ok...But seriously, both sketches are great; I'd post them both, myself. I usually prefer fantasy stuff, but i'd buy this in a heartbeat! (assuming I had the $$$, of course ) +1! -Slayer

It is quite in the realm of fantasy, the only real historical precedence being the Xa blade. I did try to keep it within the realm of historical plausibility, in that it appears like it COULD have been used at a point in history (though I believe scentstopper pommels came at a much later period than Xa blades).
That is my favorite type of fantasy (and why I enjoy a few of the Lord of the Rings swords).

I'd like it with a 23 inch blade and a 5 inch handle. Nice job kid.

So, made another design tonight, and it will probably incur the wrath of Japanese and European collectors alike.
First off, the inspiration (from a very unlikely source). I saw Ecovolo's thread about the UC Katana, and I decided to search for them and see what they looked like. While searching, I saw a double-edged straight-bladed katana that caught my eye. Not something I would buy, but neat in my opinion. But with a 30" blade, the tsuka seemed kind of long for a somewhat euro-style blade.
Soooo the hamster in my head got to running and I wondered what it would look like with a more euro-blade (type XI) mated to a 5-6" tsuka, and I figured I'd draw it and see.
It's 4am, and the scanner is in my brother's bedroom, but I'll scan it later today and post it. I kind of like it, and I think the ito would give a stellar grip on an arming sword, as well as helping with edge alignment. Plus, I like that it's unique (to my knowledge). Only problem is the balance would probably be a bit far out (5-6" at least) with the lack of a real pommel.

Thanks guys. Bear with me here on this new one, my scanner is on the fritz (sigh....) so I was forced to take pictures using my phone. As such, quality will not be the best but I hope you can get an idea what I envisioned. I'll post a scan once I get the damn thing to work.

Nice, wonder how the balance would be though.

Leave it full tang, but keep the dimensions tapered so as to slip the guard over the tang still but then wrap it, will balance very well.

That's pretty much what I was thinking Sam. Keep the beefy tang from a katana over the slimmer euro tangs, and hope its enough metal to keep the balance manageable. I left out any menuki, because I think they'd be really uncomfortable on a tsuka that small.

So is the guard round like a tsuba? I notice you used 'tsuka' for the handle so this is an Asian-inspired piece? The handle looks similar to one I drew for my Mom; she wanted a sword to go through my initial on her ankle so I drew one for her tatooist. It was better than what he had on hand.

Yeah, it's a round tsuba, with a "short" tsuka mated to a euro-esque blade.
