As I put together a list of inventory I want I can't help but be attracted to the Cold Steel viking sword. Yeah it's no Fred Chen forge...It's origins make me ponder...(India)
Has anyone had experience with this one other than the review on the SBG site?

I owned one of these a few years back. It's a pretty good sword, nice and sharp. Construction seemed quite solid and it had a good ring to it. The pommel and cross and fairly detailed. I got rid of it becaise the grip was a little small for my hands.
If I am not mistaken, most Cold Steel sword blades are actually made by Windlass then assembled with the hardware here in America.

I hear its a good sword from quite a few people, Cold Steel is pretty much windlass made, or another forge in india, probably sturdy and heavy and more a viking interpretation rather then a historical copy. If you like sturdy n heavy then a good buy, if you like historical, lots more coming out like that

I really like the Hanwei viking swords. Doesn't Hanwei peen most of theirs? The only thing that worried me about the CS viking was if it had a threaded tang. As far as everything else I love the look of it. I can live with the Celtic patterns on it. The vikings traded with them so I guess it counts, right? lol.

I am not liking it personally. It feels kind of "dead" in my hand, not alive - and I have handled mucho Viking replicas. The hilt detail doesn't look authentic either. I would prefer the 5-lobe sword from MRL, although I haven't seen it up close.

Hows the edge...? Does it have a secondary bevel?

I bought mine off their 2007 X-mas flyer factory second .It came with off center pommel and loose guard but I use J B weld to fix them. The blade is very sharp and has nice balance to it. My sword actually making the wind zipping sound when I swing it (tachi kaze ?) I don't handle many other Viking sword so I can not tell you if this one has authentic weight and balance or not. It is one hand sword with short grip so recoverly time after the swing is much slower . I have not handle it for months now after reading this post I think I will cut some bottle with it this weekend

Personally I want one of these, specifically the one on the left I don't particularly like cold steel because of the lifelessness of their products, even if it requires me spending a bit more I would rather buy from someone else.
