Did anyone else notice a lot of these have been popping up? Usually not heat treated and probably made from a medium-low carbon steel.

It's what the masses want. Someone decided to be the one to capitalize on it.

I absolutely support it and think it is cool, but there is so many of them recently. Even Ronin found one! (As you can see in his thread). I mean... At one time they were a bit of a dream... Now they seem to be more and more common.

They've been making their way in for a while now. It just happens they've really caught on suddenly. This is what happens when the really bad anime (I'm looking at you, Naruto ) manages to gain a following (infect the populace like the disease it is?).

Indeed. But I have been contemplating weather to make myself a collection of these monsters or not. On one hand, cool... The other, impractical.

If you merely intend to hang them on the wall as something that represents something you happen to enjoy then by all means, grind down some sheet metal and go to town. Just don't try to convince yourself you'll be cutting any bottles with them.

No kidding. Even if it were sharp, it would be hard to swing horizontally to cut a bottle. The only thing I have seen people cut with these are pallets, and they do not seem to be as easy to obtain as bottles. Although the big sword/pallet cutting would be an awesome event at a bottle cutting party. I mean, a party consisting of normal swords.

Anime-sized sword are like anime-sized boobs. Everyone wishes they were real, but they are not meant for actual use.... ...let alone hard use.

I'll refrain from sharing my opinions on anime breasts. I will, however, lament that no real 21-year-olds have the body of Ichigo Morino...

My hopes are to someday create a battle ready one. Fully heat treated and such. But I imagine that would be rather difficult to heat treat something that big.

If your talking about something like a Buster or Berserk sword, why bother heat treating it and making it "functional"... it would be WAY too big and heavy to ever actually USE that the time and effort spent making it functional was just a waste.

I don't intend on getting in a sword fight with it, it would just be awesome to own. It is more of the cool/motivational factor of it rather than the practicality of it.

Well sure, I get that... the giant buster swords are not *MY* thing... but it's sort of along the lines of the Kit Rae stuff... if you like it and want to display it around your house, go fr it. However... the simple fact that the thing would be to big to ever use in battle... doesn't that defeat the purpass of making it battle ready? I mean... if you CAN'T use it, why bother making it 'useable'? Just get an SLO to hang on the wall... cuz thats all you ever really CAN do with it.

BUT I would just like to make one. It would be incredibly unique, as these type of swords are almost never fully heat treated. It would be a present for myself... Or for someone I really cared about...

Just wanted to point out that Naruto is a lot better than a lot of other animes out there that already had a following (that means you, Dragon Ball.)...

Not necessarily... granted, it's not within Our knowledge, and may not be within the knowledge of the human race at all, right now. But in time, someone will make a breakthrough on lighter metals that can be used for swords...
