Jody Samson Artist - Swordmaker - Knifemaker - Friend November 4, 1946 - December 27, 2008 It is with the deepest regret that we announce the passing of legendary swordmaker, Jody Samson, on Saturday, December 27, in his shop in New Glarus, Wisconsin. Jody was a true friend, a multi-talented artist, and one of the most generous people you could ever meet. He will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his many other friends and fans around the world. When we think of Jody, this quote from one of his customers always comes to mind: If the gods left the secret of steel on the battle field beneath a leaden sky, Jody Samson found it, learned its riddle well, has mastered it and now shares it with the awesome folks at Albion. His work is legendary, his talent is supernatural. -- Rick Robinson

We have lost an artist that has inspired so many. I owe him a great debt... his swords from Conan the Barbarian are what first turned me on to swords 30 years ago
My thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones at this difficult time...
Jody Samson ... the mortal to whom Crom bestowed the secret of steel... rest well, you will be remembered.

Man, I can hardly believe it...
First Hank, then Jody - who else of the "old guard" will be passing, I wonder?
Godspeed.

A fitting epitaph, Brian.
The circle of life often leaves most of us speechless; with the feeling that the world is a little less bright today.

Very sad news... I, like Marc, was inspired by Joby's work in Conan... he will be missed.

Wow, even though I have loved swords for little over 2 years, and discovered Jody's work but 3 months ago, I feel like I knew him personally. Jody's swords were amazing, and, although I did not know him, I will most certainly miss him. (don't you go getting bitten by a brown snake, Bren/Paul, we don't need even fewer of the legends to be around! And yes, I consider you guys to be on that tier; so sue me, lol) All in all, a fitting quote comes to mind..."NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!" (from starwars episode IV, Luke after he learns about Darth Vader being his father)

I never met him, but his blades kindled the imagination and helped inspire my love of fantasy.
Rest well Mr. Samson and thank you for letting us glimpse from our reality into the fantastic.

Our time on Earth as living beings is so limited,
but even in passing, our life's work can continue to inspire others,
and that lasts for eternity....
My condolences to the Samson family....
Regretfully, James Gall

Wow, that is truly sad news. I had hoped that one day I might get a chance to meet him in person and tell him what an inspiration his work was to me as a kid. I'm sure he's heard that from many others. Like others here, his fantasy swords from the first Conan movie were what got me really interested in swords.
I would count myself lucky if when I'm gone I'm mourned by 1/10th as many people.

Heres to a life that followed a passion, and contributed to the world from a place of true creation. Jody acheived what many only talk about. Cheers to Jody and his gift.

I remembered when I bought my first Benchmade production knife with design of one of his grinds. It was amazing! He will be missed. My condolences to the Samson family.
