Hello all,
I was going to order a Differentially hardened knife from Mora, but I can't find a good vendor.
Can anyone help?
Has anyone ordered from these people before?
I can't find very many vendors, only 2 others that I don't feel I trust.
Thanks,
Sal

There are two makers of Mora Knives. Frost's and Ericcsons. They are two different designs, and I much prefer the Frost's model. Here's where I bought mine. They were $9.00 back then, but $12 still isn't bad at all. I ordered 8 of them to keep and give away to friends: www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=78455Great Knife!

Don't judge until you try one. Mora knives are of laminated Swedish high-carbon steel, and some of the sharpest utility/camp/work/general-purpose knives that you will ever come across. They are sort-of an evolution of the legendary Puukko knife, and one of the most worthwhile ways I can think of spending ~$10. Period.

Slavia is dead on. Moras are among my favorite knives. I have many and have never been less than impressed by their simple functionality. I generally try to get mine from Ragnar at Ragweed Forge. Top notch sevice in every respect. www.ragweedforge.com/ Here, specifically, is his Mora page: www.ragweedforge.com/SwedishKnifeCatalog.html.

Are they single bevel or double bevel? Because a plain carbon steel blade isn't close to the sharpest or best knife you can come across. The fall kniven U2 lockback is made of Laminated SGPS and is one of the sharpest knives you'll come across sigh, I wish we could do knife reviews here.

To answer your question, the cutting edge is single-bevel. The rest of your post just makes you seem very silly.

sigh, I wish we could do knife reviews here. I reviewed the CS Laredo bowie a little while back. I put it in the review section under Other Weapons and Armor. (how soon they forget) Like Marc said, review what you want. ;D

Well slavia you said "some of the sharpest utility/camp/work/general-purpose knives that you will ever come across."
I find that very silly.
I guess I'll start doing knife reviews then, cool!

One of the sharpest all around knives I can find. I won't judge until I buy one, which I will after I figure out how much my computer stuff will run me, but I find it hard to believe in a 12$ carbon steel knife, unless they cut a ton of corners everywhere else.

They are just really simple, and nothing fancy. The handle is just injection-molded plastic and rubber, and the sheath is plastic as well. You can call that cutting corners if you want. The blade itself is nothing fancy either, but it is indeed extremely sharp and durable--especially for the price. You'll see what I mean if you buy one.
"Sharpness" really has nothing to do with the quality of steel or blade work used to make a knife. I can take a piece of annealed sheet metal and grind-file it down until it is hella sharp. I can also go to the hardware store (or the Females section of Wal-Mart) and buy a razorblade that is sharper than most knives for 60 cents.
I was merely saying that Mora knives are extremely sharp and very useful utility knives. The fact that they are $12 is a great perk. They are great quality for the price, but of course you'll get a better quality knife if you pay a lot more. I was merely talking about out of the box cutting ability [i.e. sharpness].

Bottomline, sharpness and quality are two different things. They can indeed be correllated, especially when you factor in the pricetag. But it is silly to use them interchangeably.
The Mora knife is really sharp, and decent quality. It is definitely a user knife, not some collector's item or hyped-up marketing scheme. So, it is a simple knife that get's the job done. That is why it is so cheap. You've got to appreciate it for what it is...not what it isn't.
Which Applegate are you buying? PLEASE don't tell me it's a Boker. If so, wait for a good Blackjack to come up on eBay instead.

OK, let me put this into perspective!!! With the Swedish Mora knife, you are getting a $45-$65 knife for $12 because it is subsidized by the Swedish government, I am able to get all kinds off cool motor cycles stuff from Sweden for cheep compared to here because of that!!!
