Hmm... Interesting. But what about the thousands of other kukri sites that also claim the contract? Thousands? Which ones? I believe I have only encountered three companies (which, themselves, usually have more than one site each). Two of which have been confirmed. And the third doesn't even seen to have an active site anymore. Maybe we need a new thread about this.

In case there was any confusion, slav, the "thousands" was a bit on the sarcastic side. Just a bit, though.
But it does seem that just about anybody selling kukris at all will claim the official contract. Perhaps we should look into this...

I don't think that HI claims that they have an official contract and apart from khukuri house and palace I don't know of any other respected makers of khukuri.

Yeah. HI does not claim a contract. House and Palace both claim contracts, and both look to be legit (new contract bids are taken each year). So who does that leave?

Okay, fine, so those are pretty much the only ones unless you count eBay sellers. Even then I've not been in the kukri scene for a while and most of my haunts save Khukuri House are now gone. It just struck me as odd that once upon a time, wherever I looked, held the current contract. HI I don't count. As far as I know, they don't list anything as a service model, so naturally they won't claim to be the ones who make the service models. But in my day I saw many "service" kukri (no. 1, no. 2, etc.) selling in many places, sourced from the "official contractor" or whatever. I'm not even sure how we came to this topic but if a slight jest on my part is enough to throw something already so far off-track even further off, then I suppose it is now my obligation to attempt to return to the initial topic. So...how 'bout those antiques? Any more info on the individual pieces?

Thanks random....yeah, back on topic. I'd like an antique. My dad's SF buddy has one hanging up that he somehow came about on tour in the middle east. It has some numbers and a broad-arrow stamp on the ricasso.

I know MRL sells some antiques in their catalogs and on their site... Apparently they've even found and added some more. It used to be they had longleaf and bhojpure kukris from the 1890's and prior, with or without original scabbards, but it seems now they're selling WW1 and WW2 issue pieces. I am heavily tempted by these. Though I'd rather see what I could find on, dare I say it?...eBay. I'd also be interested in seeing some pictures of your father's kukri, if you should ever find yourself in its vicinity.

slav the broad arrow is the british inspection stamp and the 4 digit number is the soldiers number so sounds like he has a british issued military kukri. Like to see pics to.
Only got one of those it in the pics.

With the chance of getting my nose bitten off again ;D ;D ;D ... I can assure you "stizz", with my hand on my hart they (Windlass) most certainly DON'T hold the Ghurkha contract ! They might have had the contract in the past, during the war years when there was a higher demand !
