Not so long ago, I said I was going to change out the tang nut on my Cold Steel Jian, Ling Ling, so that I could add a tassel to her. Yeah, yeah, not that big of a job, but someone else said that he wanted to see the images... Well, I sat down with a wrench long enough to do it. I took off her tang nut and then turned to a forms jian I've had for a few years and pulled the tang nut off it, replacing it with Ling Ling's original nut and placing this brass nut on Ling Ling... Here is Ling Ling with no tassel: I chose for her tassel the tail of a tanuki. This type of critter: Here is the particular tail: Alright, I can't figure this stupid image out. I have edited the image and all I get is the original image here when photobucket shows me the edited version (I replaced the original). Here's the code photobucket provided me: IMG i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc29/alexandertaran/tanukitail.jpg /IMG And here is Ling Ling, showing off her new fur tassel: And here are a couple pictures of me in a pose that I no longer recall the name of with Ling Ling:

Okay. Had a problem with the original tassel job. That chain ripped right out of the skin of the tail. The taxidermist I talked to said he wasn't surprised and suggested that I make a few changes to the tail to strengthen it. First, to prevent the tail from just flying apart when I swing the sword, I needed to glue a leather lace inside the split skin for the full length of the tail. Next, I needed to craft a connection point for whatever I used to tie or chain the tail to my pommel. The only idea we could come up with was to rivet a piece of leather, folded over, to the skin of the tail. So here's the finished work:
