All this "pickle chipping" got me thinking about another contest. I don't find milk jug cutting to be very inspiring. I don't know why. But that's just me. Maybe it's because good "pickle chipping" requires the same cut, over and over. However, I really like cutting plastic bottles of the 12, 16, 20, 24 ounce etc. size. They are free if you collect them from the garbage or recycle bins, or the roadside (public service you know ). And they seem to provide a great challenge to cut while leaving the bottom upright on the stand and still containing water. This led me to propose a second SBG challenge/contest. How about a contest to see who can cut the most plastic bottles while leaving the bottoms upright? This would obviously need to be filmed for an accurate count. The competitor would start and keep cutting until a bottom fell off the stand or overturned. Anyone interested?...

Heck no, Mike! I'm lucky to keep a milk jug standing upright! But I would enjoy watching the videos, for sure. Especially yours, I always learn something new from them.

I'm interested... but I'm gonna need a better blade then what I currently have to pull much of this off. You have all those awesome Atrim's and Albion's around your place... I have a Gen 2, a couple Darkswords, A Paul Chen Rapier and Practical Kung Fu sword (both awefull for cutting), and a couple katana none of which are in full functional condition. Tell ya what... send me one of your good cutters... and I'll get to work on my video right away! Otherwise I'll probably have to wait till the next batch of VA Practical Arming Swords becomes avalible... I am really looking to get a no frills sword that handles and acts like a SWORD, if ya know what I mean.

Mike, you meant one clean cut bottle after another (not a line of bottles on a stand) right? Well, I suspect my skill level is somewhere below kidcasanova's, but I will throw my two cents in anyway: Sounds fun to me Would you score one vs two handed cuts differently?

Debbie, you got the idea. Place a bottle on the stand, cut it, pick up the undisturbed bottom and replace with the next bottle. Continue until a bottom falls or turns over. Kenpachi316, for reference our "16 oz" soda bottles are 1.06 pt or 500mL. Small water bottles are about the same. We could unofficially call this the "pint-size bottom challenge". ;D Let's see what we can do to get shadowhowler a cutting sword.

I AM IN! won't be able to cut tomorrow (working) but I'll get some in soon. I would also like to challenge folks to cut a 20oz./500ml bottle that is empty and leave the bottom standing. ;D no need to do THOSE in a row. I have a total of 4 right now, one of which is caught on video.

till when do we have to do that challenge? i've hurt my back and won't be able to cut before hollydays In theory, it could be a never-ending contest for bragging rights and recognition. I hope your back heals quickly so you can join in the fun. I actually thought this up last weekend and have been playing with it ever since. It's funny how I can never seem to do things when I really try. Today I cut a BUNCH of bottles. So far I did two in a row... once. All the few other stationary bottom cuts were immediately followed by encounters with unhappy bottles that had "wandering bottoms."

I have this from the summer. I'll have to work up something new. Very cool...lol. Man that blade is seriously thin isn't it?! I like this idea...and the cool thing is there's comparable bottles world wide. Guess I'll have to forge myself a nice whip thin blade to compete with eh? =D Cris

This sounds fun. I've actually never tried cutting those little water bottles. Plus, I've got a short sword I just finished putting a new edge on. Probably ought to be paper-cutting sharp though, may need to be sharper? How sharp do you guys find you like your blades for water bottles? I don't normally keep any of mine paper-cutting sharp.

Most of mine are not quite paper-cutting sharp. A sharper sword makes cutting light bottles a little easier. But without almost perfect edge alignment, even the sharpest sword can cause the bottom to tip over or fall. With perfect edge alignment even an almost dull sword with leave the bottom on the stand.

I like...'Cut your finger if you touch it' sharp for water bottles lol. Water bottles are actually pretty abusive to swords, surprisingly enough. What's more important though isn't the sharpness, it's the cross section. A narrow wedge shaped blade will be like a razor, while a thick blade with a lot of meat close to the edge will be like a baseball bat =). Both may cut, but the first blade will have more opportunity to leave the base standing on the stand. Cris
