I may be starting a new project. I would like to remount my machete into some other weapon. It is your average machete you can find at any hardware store. The blade is awesome and the handle and sheath suck. I think it would be awesome to see the blade on some other type of mounting. Maybe a pole arm of sorts. What do you guys think?
(Man, I have not tackled anything since that time I made myself a rope dart! It is about time!)

That would also be super cool. I tried putting the blade in this wall hanger saya just to see what it would look like and it didn't look bad.

Funny you bring this idea up, I keep looking at my machete thinking it might be happier attached to an ax handle... sort of like a brush hook, maybe I should stop thinking and start doing.

Oh. What kind of handle does it have, and how is it attached? A hallow plastic handle. Just crap. I wanna put an axe handle on it.

Machete with long handles are actually very traditional in South America where they are used as harvest tools. I've always thought they would work very well as a Naginata substitute. Also, like a hand machete a handled version would have multiple striking and hammering surfaces. On the other hand let me know your results, I love machetes but can't stand the plastic handles on most production ones.

if you are going to use an axe handle you should put the handle on backwards to the position of the blade.

I decided that I was gonna just put a dao style handle on it. I got 2 pieces of wood chiseled and they are clamed on the tang drying as we speak. All I got to do now is shape the handle and wrap it. BTW I just used pine wood for the handle, as this is for practice, and if the handle cracks, oh well, I got the wood for free anyway, and the blade was like 12$.
If I like the handle, I will make another with more fancy mountings. And possibly just buy, or make a new blade...

You should also make it out of a more resistant wood, pine is s**t when it comes to impact stuff, cocobolo or something is a better option and readily available as I understand it.

It is, but this is more of a "practice" project, not so much for function. It is essentially a wallhanger. If I use better wood, I am also gonna make my own blade. No sense wasting gold to make a turd seem classier than it is... So in a sense, I am only polishing a turd, not so much gold plating it... The handle is also held together with gorilla glue, just to give you an idea of how un serious I was...

Well, here is some pics of what I got so far. I decided to just go with an extended version of the original handle. It is no where near done, but I am getting somewhere. (Reminder: This is only a practice project, I don't plan on using this for actual heavy use) The wood I started with was about 3 inches wide, I sawed it down to 2 inches wide. The tang is holding itself in, thanks to the odd shape, but I wanna bamboo peg it anyway for added, unneeded security. It is far from done. I still need to file the final shape, finish it and add some form of a wrap over it. The tools I have used so far are: 2 C-Clamps A drill Chisels A fold-able hack saw vice I really need a belt sander and a band saw...

Lools good ,you need a rasp to finish shaping it. But you are using pine this time around so a good sharp knife can do alot of shaping on it.
